Why do people mask their license plates in pictures, I'm a newb and just wonder what the reason is and if I should worry about it or not.

not sure if its available in canada, but i heard that in Australia, there something for the public which shows information of the person just by his/her plate number. like address, phone numbers, gender, etc. basically it makes your car easier to steal if your car pops up on a website and someone near by is interested. there are also corrupt insurance workers out there too...

I used to have access to a database like that. Only mto, cops and service Ontario have access. BUT people can be paid.

Lol, privacy.. A lot of this forum can be seen by google searches so that would make the car's plates visible to anyone on the web.

Isnt that the point of the OPs question of why people blur their plates?

with plate you can get a uvip which would give you the registered owners name and city, i think. nothing beyond that, but someone will have to correct me...

Whatever, if someone wants to steal it they'll steal it regardless. My cars are registered to my parents' address even though I live elsewhere.

Yeah, lol. Don't come steal my sh*t. ;)
You wouldn't find the cars anyway, they're a few levels underground heavily guarded by security/cameras. There's no GPS or cell reception down there.

Forum mini-meets I couldn't really care.
But at a larger public show (Import Expo, ImportFest, CSCS, etc) I prefer to hide the plates.
I don't really know why - it was something we did back in the 90's. Mostly due to paranoia. But it also looked better - Either fake vanity plates or just gone completely.

If someone wants your car they will find it you hiding your plates and then next week they see a car identical with plates. If someone's the creepy they will get your plate number if they really want
Lesson of the day.... don't make your shit so obvious that people feel the need to rob you... lol

all this talk about "if they want to steal your car they will"
same can be said about locking your doors and even buying an alarm. You do what you can to prevent it.
3 words... get a gun... lmao! hahahaha
