hey guys I am located in trinidad and tobago and I have a 2004 mazda 3 that been giving me problems now for almost a year and I need some help really bad! two major issues. The first problem I been having was with the check engine light came on and when I did a diagnostic on it gave me a the code which meant my manifold intake flaps was closed. I couldn't of find anyone out here who can help me fix it. After doing some research i learned that I can locate the intake manifold and have them clean it out because i'm getting a slow pull off while driving and its not going faster than 145km. i'm not sure if its governed? one mechanic told me that these vehicles come with an automatic cruise control and the computer needs to be reset, another told me just to clean out the intake manifold because it may have some buildup and that will open out the flaps and cause the performance of the vehicle to be much better. But before i can do any of that a couple of days ago i'm driving and i hear a knock and a jerk and it slipped out of 4th gear and just kept reving, when i tried to put it in 4th gear manually it wasnt going in and the AT sensor then came on and it jus was reving. I had to then take off the car and start it back and the same problem continued. At this point in tiptronic mode or reg drive mode its unable to go into 3rd or 4th gear once it goes in any of those gears the AT sensor comes on and it comes out of gear and jus revs, i am able to drive in 1st and 2nd gear no problem in both modes once I change and go into 3rd gear manually or automatically the AT sensor appears and it just revs. I carried it by one mechanic he said i need a new transmission, another mechanic says it maybe a sensor. Can someone please help me and give me some solid advice. It is very very hard out here to trust anyone in this country because the vehicle its a fairly new one out here and a lot of the mechanic give advice with trial and error. Also if I run it in through the computer for a diagnostic will the computer pick up a transmission problem?:(:(:bang:bang

Hey guys,
I am located in Trinidad and Tobago and I have a 2004 mazda 3 that has been giving me problems now for almost a year and I need some help really bad!
Two major issues: The first problem I been having was with the check engine light came on and when I did a diagnostic on it gave me a the code which meant my manifold intake flaps was closed. I couldn't find anyone out here who can help me fix it. After doing some research, I learned that I can locate the intake manifold and have them clean it out because i'm getting a slow pull off while driving and its not going faster than 145km/h. I'm not sure if it's governed? One mechanic told me that these vehicles come with an automatic cruise control and the computer needs to be reset, another told me just to clean out the intake manifold because it may have some build-up and that will open out the flaps and cause the performance of the vehicle to be much better.
But before I can do any of that a couple of days ago i'm driving and I hear a knock and a jerk and it slipped out of 4th gear and just kept reving, when I tried to put it in 4th gear manually it wasn't going in neither and the AT sensor came on and it just was reving. I had to then to turn off the car and start it back and the same problem continued...
At this point in Tiptronic mode or regular Drive mode it's unable to go into 3rd or 4th gear and once it goes in, the AT sensor comes on, it comes out of gear and just revs. I am able to drive in 1st and 2nd gear no problem in both modes but once I change and go into 3rd gear manually or automatically the AT sensor appears and it just revs, yet again.
I carried it by one mechanic he said I need a new transmission, another mechanic says it maybe a sensor... Can someone please help me and give me some solid advice? It is very very hard out here to trust anyone in this country because the vehicle its a fairly new one out here and a lot of the mechanic give advice with trial and error.
Also if I run it in through the computer for a diagnostic will the computer pick up a transmission problem?

If you're better with your grammer, maybe I could have read your post a little better. But from what I can atleast read, it sounds like you're having an issue with either the transmission itself or the TCM. Check the fluid condition of the transmission fluid, if it looks ok and doesn't smell burned, it may be the TCM. The TCM is a little hard to diagnose. See if you can swap one from another vehicle with the same engine size and around the same year. They should be plug and play. No need for programming. It's located under the battery, on top of the transmission.
Best regards,

Sorry about the grammar! Can you tell me what does TCM stands for?

TCM=transmission control module
Your problem sounds very similar to my coworkers problem his wouldnt go in to 1st or 2nd. He had to buy a new transmission control module and his car was ok afterwards. Not having the car infront of me to diag it is very hard to rule out the problem. I am just relating to what I have heard and seen.
The check engine light what code did you get? for example P0170 is something that I am looking for. It will always be a PXXXX
