View Full Version : Splash Guards
Does anyone know if splash guards cut down on the dirt that gets on the sides and back of the Mazda3 Sport when driving on gravel roads? Are they worth it?

This is from Rally armors website
Question: How effective are Rally Armor mud flaps on my vehicle?
Answer: The rally proven design, wide area of coverage, and premium choice of materials allow our Rally Armor flaps to provide superb protection for your vehicle. Our mud flaps help protect against snow, rocks, water, gravel, mud, dirt, grease, road paint, and asphalt from hitting the sides and underbody of your vehicle, as well as vehicles/objects behind you.http://www.rallyarmor.com/store/images/evo_snow_coverage2.jpg

When I had rally armors on my Subby, they saved my paint on the side skirts and back bumper. Definitely worth it in my opinion.

First thing i did to my '12 was throw on rally armor flaps.
They do ALOT.
And if you are running Wider than stock wheels they are a must for keeping the paint from getting rashed.

Ha, like that pic from their site of the blue Evo. Still worth it.

From the photo, it doesn't look as if they have any effect at all on keeping dirt off the sides of the car. That's what my car looks like now when I drive on a muddy road without splash guards.

You will have fewer rock chips with them on than without them. They will not keep them from getting sprayed from the front tires.

That looks like he was doing some serious rallying lol
I pulled mine out as far as i could before setting them in place, you can choose how far out they come.
After Mr Wilson's photo I no longer see the point.

Snow has a way of making it around in air flow. The tires throw up so much that is blocked by the RallyArmors and that's where their value lies.
Nothing is going to completely stop the dirt... unless you just dont drive anywhere...
This thread is dumb.

+1
Besides, the RAs in the pic looked like they're pushed in almost all the way. I have mine more or less the same.

I installed Rally Armour for the protection from rocks and debris. Previous owner did a lot of driving on rural road made from rocks and dirt. There is a lot of rock chips and paint fading under the rear bumper and front side skirt area.
Overall, good investment.
Are the Rally Armors really worth that much more than other mud flaps?

I would say there's quite a bit of difference in terms of prices (Corksport, Rally Armor, JBR, etc). As far as materials used, I know corksport and rally armor are similar. JBR is ABS plastic.. Can't say about the thickness as I've not seen Corksport and JBR flaps in person. As for the make, I assume it's the same (how else can you cut a urethane sheet)...
Would be nice if there were a dealer in the Maritimes. Shipping is heavy.

You can make your own.

Some garbage bins and hardware and you are good to go.

I was thinking about mud flaps too.. I think anything is worth the shot at protecting the side of my car haha, the RallyArmors are pretty pricey but CorkSport doesn't even have 2010+ mud flaps yet.. I think they don't look to bad as a mod anyway haha.

Maybe.. but $10 for home made ones will do the job, then I can spend $200 + or whatever they cost on real mods :)
Talked with my Mazda dealer about them and I've decided to do without. I think they'll look goofy in the back and in the front they're likely to drag in snow. Don't need that.

Drag-in snow? Not likely as they're not rigid. It'll sweep the snow somehow but will not get stuck on the flaps itself.
As for goofy looking, well, sure, but it does the job though. That's the important thing.. :)

And it will protect the sides of your car having them on. Less snow/stone slinging which is really the only reason I want them.

Exactly. Only reason I like the flappers too. :chuckle

I have had RA on my '07 Mazda 3 hatch, and I now have RA on my 2010 hatch. No issues in the snow for the last two years, but I do make it a habit to give my wheel wells a kick to dislodge any large chunks of frozen snow before I drive.
Agree with the reasons for installing the flaps, I used to get a rock chip on the side of my '07 about once every couple weeks before installing the flaps.
