Just out of curiosity... do people with Automatic Tranny's also get their Mz3's modified for Performance? Anyone running a CAI or performance exhaust with the 5AT? (or maybe 6AT, now!)
I remember back when I used to hang out at ClubEL, there were actually 1-2 guys who had Auto's but still got performance mods but other than them, it was like 90% stickshifters. Wondering if it's different for Mazda Freaks :)

I have an auto, performance mods on my car i guess are CAI and exhaust, just cause it adds a bit even if your car is an auto, and it does sound better.
other than that no real performance mod.

Performance modding on a Mazda 3 is silly lol. Just an intake and cbe for me , yay like 7hp
Impressive

I drive manual, but unless you plan on tracking your vehicle regularly I wouldn't bother with performance in a N/A Mazda3 regardless of transmission.

For me...
AUTO = All Show, No Go...
I just put intake and cbe for the sound...not really a huge diff in hp ;)

According to who? The tiptronic-autos are almost as quick if not just about the same.
I would say all NA Mazda 3s are all show, no go.

With the new autos now I don't see any problems with modding for performance.

98% of the NA 3's on this board is all for show. Even if they did the I.H.E. mods.
mostly because Mazda drivers are smarter - if they wanted performance - they would've just buy a Speed3 to begin with.

As mentioned above, MZ3 that is N/A won't yield much gains. By the time you spend all your efforts trying to beef up performance it wont be THAT much noticeable. Although it is nice to dream LOL. Auto or Manual, you can still make the car sound good, and handle well. Good luck modding.

Performance doesn't necessarily mean only power, handling is important too! Since there's not too much you can extract out of an NA mz3 engine, you can look towards improving on the already great handling characteristics of the car.
