Have any of you ever gotten over the Mods on your car?

I love the look and stance of my car. I love the cowl - I love the way she drives. But after a recent road trip to NYC, Im left wondering if its time to part her out.

Shitty roads cause me to swerve and slam on my brakes to avoid scraping my just repainted lip - failed. Pulling into the parking garage while lowered has resulted in some rather painful scraping under the car. I get that it was NYC but I also notice this behaviour at home. Im starting to feel that its a lot more work driving a modded car than what its worth :bang. I also let my partner drive my car and she doesnt really understand the whole "Driving while lowered" concept.

Lately I have been dreaming of an SUV.

Anyone else deal with this? How do I fall in love with my car again? :(

Every few weeks I get the urge to part my car out and buy a motorcycle. I scrape my lip ALL THE TIME. It's under the car though... Not really a big deal.

You damn right I'm tired of mods! They come into every thread and check every goddamn thing! They shut down all the good threads about fun stuff, forum games, random shit. Always leave the serious threads in there. What kind of forum is this?!

Am I tired of mods? Damn straight I am!

Quoted for truth

But in all seriousness, nope
Getting compliments from random people I park beside or drive by, or that stop by when I'm working on my car makes me feel like I'm doing it right.

How badly could you have scratched your lip that you needed to repaint it?
Put springs on the car with a mild drop and not a SLAMMED drop and you will be fine. I do alot of driving and my car is lowered and have always driven lowered cars and 1 of them was slammed at least to me it was. Never really had a problem though. Just keep the interior of your car clean and keep the sound system bumping and you will enjoy your ride

stand outside and let someone else drive your car around for a bit. and then just stare at your car while the person is driving and eventually you'll start liking it

worked for me :chuckle

Give your car some TLC. Make it shiny again or fix something on it that's been bothering you whether it be cosmetic or mechanical. Add a mod that you've always wanted to do. Any of these should work. Bring your partner out to a meet to meet other TM3ers and see their cars. She may be better able to understand your reasons for driving lowered and modding.

I feel the similarly about my car now. I didn't put much into the car, but meh.. feels kinda empty now (not just my wallet)
Before I modded it I had all these awesome visions of an awesome car.. now its "just a car"
Modding is not for everyone I guess.

I dunno, the daily compliments I get about my car definitely make it worthwhile. You can be like everyone else (boring black, white and silver grocery getters)... or you can be unique. I also love when I'm on the highway and I drive by some dude and his GF and the GF is practically leaning out the window when I go by to get a better view :chuckle

Honestly the only parts of my car that I'm not happy about are the stock things that need fixing. Like I have an annoying thunk in my trunk coming from rear suspension and for the life of me I cant find the cause. It is sooo annoying. That and I think i lost another motor mount because its coming damn near impossible to make smooth shifts.

Also I'm not tired of mods, I just don't have money... But this is why I retain stock height... Because in the road conditions of our cities you can't drive that low to the ground

The reason why your Probally sick of mods is cause you want a suv. We all get like that... Only problem even if you part out your car and sell it and buy your self an suv most likely you will start again with modding.

All the time!
Especially now my car is the daily driver / weekend escaper.

I've piled drywall and construction skids, furniture and landscaping supplies on the roof of my car. Other than quick car wash runs - It's been filthy for months. I still have winter mats in and haven't detailed since last year

I've almost given up so many times... Then I end up at KC and can't help about thinking of my next mod. (haven't seen you there lately btw)

Get adjustable dampers and go with 17" rims to help with road comfort. Roof rack for more storage space and versatility

I know exactly what you're feeling. I parted out my 3 and then got a dub...then went a couple months without modding it aside from the necessary changes it needed and i felt empty. Had to start modding it slowly but now I come to realize a motorcycle could be cheaper in the end but my wife isn't thrilled by it and that's why I don't have one already :(

This is a very honest post. I am in the negatives in my personal banks account on account of doing some mods! Am I happy, yes, but being in the red is not a nice feeling. I love cars, and always will, but I think we all have to remember that while we love our M3s and MS3s, they are vehicles that can make us feel great but not the source of our happiness.

I say the post is honest because we mod our car, love it and then the mod we just did becomes the new normal. I think part of the trick on modding is to do it and only do a few/season so it's something you can aim for, do it, and love it. Of course we would love to do a whole bunch of things, but maybe waiting will make us love something in time and build some excitement and anticipation.

After I tinted, I thought that it wasn't such a big deal, but when I see the car now, I appreciate it. Maybe feelings about modding the car come and go. I know they do for me and a lot of it has to do with the cash I have and don't have.

When I saw Jimmy, he mentioned I had some issue with my rear bushings that will require attention. That is a structural thing that I have to deal with and need to divert money from modding into that because if I can't drive my vehicle, I can't enjoy my mods. Modding seems to be about moderation (pun intended.

I know I have to ease up on my modding for the summer, even though it is early in the summer. I have to resist looking at other people's cars or reading other people's signatures and wanting to make changes on my car even though I want to.

Cheers.

I promised that I would not mod for the year when I picked up my car in January. That promise lasted 4 days before I ordered springs, spacers and a new grill. 4 months later and I have to stop since I have bought and installed more each month. Not that I am tired of modding but need to put my money into other things.....until next year.

When I had my 3, I had done everything that I wanted.

This is why I've parted out my car on 3 different occassions to go back to complete stock. Believe me, it's not like I wanted to have numerous sets of rims for my car over the last 5 years.

I de-modded my car because I have a Brampton postal code, even though my record and wife's record was spotless....the quotes we were getting for 2 cars + house were stupid.

Finally got a very good quote though a bank and I honestly didn't want to deal with issues with insurance and mods in case something happened - so I got rid of everything. I am running neuspeed sport springs on OEM shocks though, but even got Quy to powder coat the springs black, JUST in case, rest of the car is stock.

Paranoid? maybe yes....but right now just at a stage in my life where family and finances comes first. The money and time spent on mods could be used elsewhere. Hopefully there will be some time later for a 3rd "toy" car that could be something only used on weekends, cruise nights etc.

Not having a car that's modded sucks, but it's also cool not having to worry about swerving around potholes, wrecking a front lip, killing the fenders because the wheels rub, or getting broken into and having stuff jacked lol

Sorry - I totally went on a rant about this and then forgot to check in!

The lip was repainted when I replaced the bumper after my brother had the fender bender with my car. He painted the lip and bumper.

I wouldnt say that I am slammed, running H-techs. I love the stance of the car - when its not moving LOL. But I agree with what others say, I do love the compliments. When I stopped off at a service station on my way home from NYC, someone parked beside me and as we were walking in, they told me they loved the look of my car. This was after I felt that my baby took a beating on the streets on NYC.

I agree that slightly modded, super modded or power modded is better than driving a grocery wagon. At times it just gets frustrating when i want to load up the car and have to move the sub out of the way. My car is a mess, inside and out and I have no motivation to detail it or even pay to have it detailed. I did all the mods that I want to do. Perhaps my issue is that I dont know what to do next. Turbo-ing isnt for me since I drive an autotragic *yawn*

Maybe a couple of new stickers might help me feel better LOL

I agree with stop modding.
Clean your car inside and out. A little bath with time and sweat makes you more connected with the car more. I'm a clean freak so I wash it more often in a month than my dad washes his van in a year. With proper cleaning and washing done, it will make you want to look at the car more :)

Happens to me all the time when I don't have money to mod, I wash!

Maybe it's not modding you're tired of. Maybe you've just outgrown your Mazda 3. You said you find yourself longing for an SUV so maybe you're just at a point in your life where a Mazda 3 is no longer a suitable vehicle for your lifestyle. Just like a lot of guys leave the MZ3 crowd and join the MS3 group because they want more performance, it's the same idea for you, it seems like you're just looking for added utility rather than performance. It happens... And maybe this is another way to look at it.

If you were to buy say a CX-5, among other things it could provide the utility your looking for and the ability to drive over rough roads without any damage. But this doesn't mean you don't want to mod. You could and probably would find yourself wanting to do mods that are suitable for a CX-5 like wheels, audio, lighting, SkyActiv intake, etc.

Of course, the cost of buying a new vehicle is another story. But maybe that's really what you want, just a new type of vehicle and not to just stop modding. I dunno, just a thought.

i just removed the pro-kits and an exhaust from my honda fit. too slow to be worth it.Heh yeah... you see ppl dropping tons of cash on tiny performance mods for their car, but at the end of the day if its got a weak power/weight ratio, its pretty much wasted.

Re: the Fit, I saw one at the track lapping with two civics the other day. They were all modded for power, straight exhausts, racing slicks, etc. The civics tore the shit out of it, but still looked pretty awesome lol

I'm in the same situation too. I like the way my car is right now, it will stay the same hopefully for as long as possible. There are always urge to mod the car even further. However, I think there's better things to spend money on. And if you have nothing you want to spend on, save for the next car!

That's what I'm doing :) I guess it's also good to mod slowly. Every new mod will boost your relationship with your car.. but if you mod 10 things as once, that's like only one slightly bigger boost. At least that's what I find.

this is why I think its perilously stupid for people to finance their cars over 72, 84 or (*gasp*) even 96 months. As tempting as the monthly payments might be, my dad was totally right when he told me i theres NO way I'm going to love (or even like) this car 7 or 8 years from now. Much as I think it's a great ride now, I've only had it for a year and already feel the need for more power. Done a lot of the suspension / bolt on mods and they've all proved rather disapointing. The only mods I think I got my moneys worth for are my exhaust, rims shifter bushings (free), RHO plate (free) and supertones. They all combine to make a car that looks and sounds attractive, but I know that in 4yrs when I'm done paying for it I'll be more than ready to jump into an STI. Times change, tastaes change, people change. Best to stay relatively flexible and be ready to make the jump when the time comes.
