View Full Version : The best or worst way to lose a flip key?

On my way home from work tonight I make a quick stop in at Zehr's for some groceries when I start to feel my stomach bubbling. I quick run in and head for the washroom. After finishing my business I reach over the toilet and as I flush I watch my flip key fall out of my cardigan pocket and into the swirling mess below. Without even thinking I throw my hand into the water and into the hole at the back of the toilet. I watch as the water drains and the bowl refills with clean water. Needless to say my hand and half my forearm is soaked and disgusting and I couldn't grab the key in the murky mess.
To add insult to injury, I was 35 minutes from home and my house keys were locked in my car. :bang

That reallllllly sucks. Hope you had 2 other copies, otherwise you'll have to pay a lot to program a new one =/
lawl, this IS a bad situation.... you probably just stood there dumbfounded for a while after like.... wtf do I do now?!?!

That's bad luck bro. I wonder how many would have shoved their hand in there after a "bubbling stomach" episode. Poll!

Surprisingly the buddy I called to pick me up declined my "thanks for the ride" hand shake...

Yeah, only have one other one. Went to Mazda today and it's looking like $300 or so... I need to see if there are any other options here.

Yeah, that turned out to be a huge fail. Haha

Inevitable. I'm a little surprised it took 12 replies though.

Yeah, it wasn't a pretty sight but I went for it. It was a natural reaction really. After finding how much it will cost to replace the damn thing I'd have made the attempt again too!

Poll, good idea! I'm curious too. Would depend on the circumstances I think. Road trip in the states somewhere, stopped at a creepy gas station in the middle of nowhere.... some creepy old man waiting outside the door, I dunno I might get in there and buy 8 bottles of soap/hand sanitizer immediately afterwards hahaha. But a local grocery store? I'd cut my losses and say bye bye to the key lol

Well the quote I got for a new key was $320 so I don't regret at least making the attempt. Hell, had I managed to grab it I would have had the extra money to buy an intake and inlet pipe, or motor mount and weighted shift knob, or get a drop. Now I'm stuck buying a spare key.

Stopped in again tonight because they had the plumber in today to look for it. The manager at the time didn't know if they had found it but told me to call back tomorrow and speak with the store manager as it was the store manager who was dealing with the plumber. So maybe tomorrow will be lucky. *crosses fingers*

OUCH!!! Is that just for the key itself or the fancy flip key thing?

If I recall correctly it's 160ish for a key alone and about another 160 for the full flip key.

I don't recall paying that much for my flip key - you might want to talk to Joe (flipdaddy)

I paid under $100 for my flip key and programmed the key and remote myself. If you don't have the proper amount of keys/remotes requited to program the new ones, you will pay out the nose because the dealership HAS to do it.

Flip keys are way too flimsy anyway. Fun to play with for the first week or two but then it gets old... lol
And if you have an alarm/starter remote it's useless really...
