Hey man, I don't get it.... I have an iphone, 2 ipod's, and I WILL get the iphone 5 when it comes out... AND I will also get the ipad3 when it's released as well... I"m not trolling or trying to incite an online riot, but Ive never had any issues (none worth crapping on), with ANY of my Apple products. I personally like apple because it.... well......it just WORKS
Oh and I'm also not an apple "fanboy" either. Now none of you really know me personally except online, or via pm, but one thing I WILL tell you all, is that with me I'm a "black n white" kinda guy.and there is NO GREY AREAS with me. That is to say, if I don't like something?...I SAY it! If I like something... I"ll defend it tooth and nail!!
What happened man? Did you get a defective product? What? Now ya got me curious :?

Mac hardware is great, well designed and well built. Their screens are brilliant, and the iPhone and iPod are both great "gadgets"....my qualm is their software (and the snooty attitude of their fanboys). Sure, it works, but it looks like a fischer price toy and treats you like a moron. Macs are great for people like my mom who dont know how to "do technical stuff" and arent interested in learning. For someone like me who's been tinkering with computers for 20yrs and knows how they work, a PC is 100 times better. I like telling my computer how its going to work, not the other way around. Oh, and my PC is a lot more powerful than the fastest mac you can buy, but cost less to build. I dont use anti-virus software at home and havent gotten a virus in years. Havent reformatted in several years, and dont need to. PCs dont get viruses, stupid users who download a ton of junk from random sources infect their PCs with viruses (virii?)

What I do have a problem with is the fanboys/girls, with their hipster superiority complex, regardless of fact or fiction.

Exactly. They do what I need them to do and the screens are excellent.

I love my macbook pro, have had it for a few years now and it still runs fine, my next computer will be a mac and so on, until it fails me multiple times like my 4 pcs I've gone through since I've owned this mac it will still be my top choice.
But here's what gets me. A mod makes a pointless thread with no information and it stays open. If someone 'new' made the same thread they would be harassed and it would have been shut down immediately . Saying apple is garbage is just looking for people to start to argue about something that has been posted a ton of times already.

Ok, so here's the deal.
All of you Apple fans who are preaching that Apple is amazing and fantastic and "your" Apple product has been flawless are ridiculous. No offense. Yours could burn out tomorrow too lol.
I am not a noob or a fanboy when it comes to Apple products. I've owned 2 desktops, 2 iphones and an ipad over the last 11 years. I work with them on a daily basis and don't just use them because they are pretty. That is the last reason I would buy an Apple.
Over the years Apple quality has been great and that is why I have stuck with them. Yes they cost an arm and a leg but the quality is "usually" worth it.
I've had the 24" iMac for about 4 years. 3 of which were covered by AppleCare. Overall it has been awesome and very good to me. Until last night that is. I was working on it normally when it completely spazzed out and the video kind of went. I could still see my mouse moving around but couldn't control anything. I had to do a hard-shutdown. When I restarted everything seems to be good. I went to click on a web link and the screen spazzed out again. Yet again, another hard-shutdown. This time though when I rebooted, the apple comes up as normal but when it tries to transfer over to the login screen all I get is a grey screen with some white and black blocks running down the right side in a vertical bar.
I've done everything under the sun to try and repair it. Swapped Ram, zapped the PRAM, etc. I'm unable to boot to anything else (CD, safemode, hardware diagnostics) and have something visual.
Apple will charge me over $1000 to replace the graphics card and it's just not worth it. So now I have a 4 year old ($2200) paper weight.
I have more to say but I'm at work and just don't have the time to write more right now. This was more of a vent. I love Apple products but feel gipped because I'm out a lot of money when it should have been good for at least a couple more years.

I've been playing with phones ever since I was in child school, same with computers.
Apple's only good for their screens and build quality. I have an Iphone 4 because it was free and needed to replace my Blackberry.
I have nothing against Apple, but I do however like to have the same performance per $
Android > Apple phones
- Apple is too limited in terms of customizing your home screen layouts, Android can do this without rooting / jailbreaking
- You can't change batteries when your phone dies with Apple. Androids you can. Extra aftermarket battery $10-20.. iPhone back up battery case = $30+
- Apple's iP4 gets hot fairly quick
Apple Computers
- You need specific hardware that's compatible with MAC OS' drivers if you need upgrade, if you don't know? Set up appointment with the Geniuses
- Not sure what's the problem with your hardware? Set up appointment with the Geniuses
- Need to replace your Magsafe under Apple Car? Set up appointment with the Geniuses
- Pay more money than what it's worth
PC
- You can build an i7 Sandybridge 16GB ram, 120GB SSD + 1TB HDD, a good video card like GTX 670 / AMD 7950 with a cool case for the same price of an iMac 24"
- You can build i5 2500k 32GB ram, 4x 120GB SSD in RAID 0 + 4x 1TB in RAID 1 with a good video card for the same price as a decent Mac Tower AND flash it to Hackintosh
- You can go to any computer store and have them diagnose your problems.
- You pay for what the part's really worth.
As for the "security / viruses" thing; if you're that paranoid, don't stream movies and leave pop ups on. I've been using computers without antiviruses for many years and have not had a problem, just my mom's computer cause she watches stupid Asian dramas and they have a bunch of popups and ads.

4 PCs?
How much do you spend for each compared to $1300+ MBP?
IF however you're spending $1000+ for each PC then there must be something wrong.
Do you treat your MBP like your PC?
- Leaving it on throughout the whole night
- Saving a lot of pictures and videos of trips
- Hard shut off
Everything dies once in awhile. I'm VERY sure that 4 PCs can't "fail" ever since you owned your MBP.
If you mean by "fail" did you try diagnosing the problem?
Maybe it was just a simple power supply failure, maybe the fans needed cleaning in order for the CPU to be cooled.
Or maybe you just didn't bother having fix these simple solutions and throwing it out and say that Apple is still your better choice because "it still runs fine"
No they wouldn't. I would be in here talking about how my experience with my flawless iMac was great. Well, up until yesterday.

PEBCAC.
I think this whole Mac vs PC debate is really bizarre. Both are good for different things, I don't even really see them as comparable anymore. I've had Macbooks, Alienware, Dell Towers, iPhones, Blackberrys, etc, and I've been using them for around 8 years now and it took me that long to realize that each is good for something, but not everything. A PC can be diagnosed at home when it breaks, and can usually be repaired quickly and for a great price, whereas a Mac will (typically) last longer than a PC but when it has something go wrong, more often than not I'd call it a "catastrophic failure" and has to be sent in to Apple for repairs and, yes, it costs much more. It's just the way they're designed, technology will fail eventually, and to be honest I'm convinced they're built that way.
Weird analogy maybe, but they're like new hockey sticks nowadays. They're constructed to perform better for a time, but after a while something always goes wrong.
Right now, I use a Macbook Pro, Alienware M17 (just reformatted due to a virus), iPhone 4S, and a Blackberry Torch. With the exception of the Blackberry, they all run fine and are all great for different things.
Anyway, just my .02

They sure seem to be.
I own two Macs at home, and I work on one everyday and am very satisfied with that. But I'm currently using an iPhone and will be switching to Android this month. It all boils down to preference, I hate the Mac v PC debate.
Also, Ryan I feel your pain. My first Mac blew the logic board and had to be sent away for repairs. I was cursing Steve Jobs and all Apple products that day.

Ryan, just shop for a brand new logic board for your iMac on eBay. You can probably get one for a few hundred bucks. If you're lucky, there might even be a faster model available. Don't get creative though, stick to your model # since it might not fit. IE: Don't try to get the 27" iMac's logic board, or something from a different year. I've replaced this for a 6 year old Macbook Pro and isn't very hard, and saves you a lot of cash.
This is why I own a Mac Pro and not an iMac... the video card blows out (BTW the video card isn't made by Apple), and I just replace it.

Wow..dude chill out. I love how you assume anyone who uses a Mac must be like your mom and can't do technical stuff. I have more actual work experience then you do and I totally prefer using a Mac. Why? It's the best of both worlds. You have all the necessary office apps from the Windows world AND the power of UNIX. It's funny... I used to have a boss that was very anti-Apple and would jokingly spew the same nonsense about it being for newbies... But then one day someone told him to look around the conference room... Every single one of his top techs was using a Mac. (Not technical support people, but actual architects and senior engineers)
Also "Stupid people get viruses" is nonsense. There's so many different ways to get virus' on Windows that it isn't even funny... If you need to be constantly on the defense so you don't trash your computer, then something is wrong with your OS.
(Just an FYI, I love Apple products, but above that I'm a gadget junkie and use the right tool for the job. I like Windows 7 and use it at home for certain tasks and I've also operated Windows servers. I don't discriminate. OS X is a top notch OS which is as simple or as advance as you wish to make it)

I personally love my iPhone IFF it's jailbroken. However I despise apple, I only like the iPhone because it works, and looks and feels great. The only problem I have with apple products is their rediculous prices and policies. My lock button broke and they want 190 to fix it, please. With a Jailbreak it's an easy work around but still I find that insane. I can no longer boot or turn my phone off without plugging it in and using jailbreak programs.
As for MacBook, worst $1000 ive spent. As a gamer and programmer it's useless to me, I bought the hype. I think the hardware is great, but I plan on wiping the HDD, putting in a minimal install of OSX and installing windows onto it.
However I do plan on getting the iphone if it has proper band support for companies like WIND. If not, its off to an andriod device for me.

I know. :( I wish I had the $ back then for a Pro. they are so much easier to work with.
I'm sure between myself and my brother we could figure out the swap part. The concern I have is that it may not be the logic board and it's hard to find the one for my model (3.06GHz).

The logic board pretty much replaces your entire iMac, so assuming it isn't the memory or the hard drive, it's gotta be the logic board. :) Then again, you could always throw the money towards a new 27" iMac :)
Also, if there's a faster CPU for your model, you can always try dropping that in. Just be careful with ports... Sometimes certain models have different physical port setups and won't fit in your case. I don't think they do this any more though.

Yeah well all of the logic boards I have been looking at didn't have the GPU which is odd. EMC No is 2211.
I'm pretty sure I have the fastest model out of the batch at the time of the speed bump. The only difference in upgrades were graphics card and hard drive I think.
Yeah I'm not feeling like buying a new 27" but I may just have to, or maybe just go with a 21.5. BLAH! too small!
^^ Very strange. The CPUs are usually soldered to the board.
Try looking by model year. IE: "2008 iMac 24". Actually, best bet is to take your machine apart and look for the model number on the board itself. Then compare to eBay. I quickly looked and some people are selling stripped down boards... I think those are the daughter boards. (There's another name for it, which I can't recall, but it isn't the main logic board, aka motherboard)

Apple is kind o0f like BMW or Mercedes.
Just like a PC is a Chevy
Sure you can make the Chevy faster, better quality, more comfortable, better looking etc all cheaper than the BMW but that's for people who like to play their car, diagnose the problems, learn about it and tinker with it.
For those who just want to get in it and go and have something that is better than a lot of other pf the shelf products, that's where the money goes

I'd say a better analogy is to liken macs to automatic transmissions and PCs to manuals. One's smooth and great for picking up groceries, but if you love cars and want to lay down some serious power at the track, chances are you're rocking a manual.

Even if you get an "off the shelf" pc priced the same as a mac, you're getting more bang for the buck with a PC. So your analogy is epic fail sir.

Aesthetics aside, the difference between a mac and PC these days comes down to the OS.
The MAC vs PC thing should have died when mac switched to intel.
Most people buy Apple because they are pretty, not because of anything else, i am talking about the majority of the common folk here. Graphic designers etc may look at other things, but for the average person its just down to looks. Given that Apple products have huge market buzz everyone is just running to anything Mac.
True fact is, apple products are nicely designed by slaving workers in China, the public looks at Apple as an innovative company when in true fact, they will do anything to stifle competition and file lawsuits against anything that a competitor comes out with.
the next 5 years will be interesting. I think when other companies get their software markets up to par with the mature market Apple has we will see a whole new ball game.
this thread is a battle that no one will win. might as well lock it now before it gets personal. :)

This really isn't a Mac vs PC thing.
There is no way I'm going to be giving up my Mac and even though it failed I will replace it. Whether that means fixing it or buying another one, or both perhaps, I will still be staying with Apple because I prefer their for the most part good quality and reliability as well as the OS and other stuff.

I assume you mean 'built' and not 'designed'.
Apple is not the only PC maker to use Chinese manufacturing labour...effectively all PC makers do. Apple is the high profile company and that's why anyone cares...especially the media as they feel its their right to try and pull down anything remotely successful.

It's the mentality of a lot of younger people these days, that if something is popular, they have to dislike it.
Nickleback, Justin Bieber, Apple. Not really that those should be lumped together but it's the 'in' thing to do, is to hate on other things and like something else

I dunno...if anything, it seems like the young kids these days are all mindless sheep eager to jump onto the metaphorical marketing bandwagons along with everyone else. Individuality seems to be a rare trait amongst the young kids I know....

I assume you mean 'built' and not 'designed'.
Apple is not the only PC maker to use Chinese manufacturing labour...effectively all PC makers do. Apple is the high profile company and that's why anyone cares...especially the media as they feel its their right to try and pull down anything remotely successful.
Apple has created over 300,000 jobs in the US directly or indirectly from Engineering, manufacturing or Transportation. the truth is this is a global economy and for Apple to continue to make the profits they do and to have the capital to create these jobs things will have to be outsourced ( taking the "company first" mentality ) most companies that want to stay competitive do. if you dont, great for you and its a sentimental approach to try to keep it " america, or Canada first " but you're not putting the business first and that might come back to haunt you one day.
just my 2 cents.
Anyway, just my .02
out of everything I have spent $$ on, I think buying an Alienware was the worst... frequent blue screens... overheating... heavy as fck... etc
oh and I have an M17RX3 also...
what are your specs? just wondering.

alienwares were good, until they got consumed by Dell.
Check out Boxx for truly high end workstations....using a 3DBoxx 8550 here at work and it ****ing destroys everything.

It's the mentality of a lot of younger people these days, that if something is popular, they have to dislike it.
Nickleback, Justin Bieber, Apple. Not really that those should be lumped together but it's the 'in' thing to do, is to hate on other things and like something else
That's the truth. Behind every successful person, lies a pack of haters.

That's natural of teens though, lol, they're just looking for a way to be individual, so what better way than to hate on what other people like? It may not seem logical to us now, but when you're still too young to even be your "own person" what do you really expect?
PS: I really do dislike that Justin Bieber though, it's just that voice...I can't do it. +1 for exploiting being from a single parent family to get famous though...he's chosen the way of the rapper.

I got an M17 just before they were bought out by Dell a few years back. To be honest, I can't even remember the specs on the machine; but yeah, they do run into a lot of problems if you're not using them solely for gaming (they are definitely WAY too heavy for anything else).
Yours is the newer (Dell) version of my M17, mine looked like this

This current generation has carried it well into their 20s. They all have this mentality of I liked it before it was mainstream or played out. Lol. Kids these days.
