Try driving down Warden and Lawrence.. I think there's a truck/vehicle on the north-east corner that sells stuff like this from time to time.

Any other flag other than the Canadian flag on your car is the gayness.
I don't see people sporting the Canadian flag (other than the small number of them seen on Canada Day) during any other time of the year.
But you'll see cars and people draped in their countries' flags during some soccer tournament.

I always used to see a guy at Vic Park and Lawrence with this stuff, seen the guy at Warden too. Just check the local plazas you'll find plenty of flags to help you blend in with the other soccer geeks :chuckle

The question is where can't you buy a flag. They are on every corner here in Mississauga. I've even seen Canadian Tire selling them.

Yes, I agree we should have national pride. And most of us do. Not many of us are ashamed to be Canadian. However, we do not have to be exclusively Canadian, especially since many of us (like me) are immigrants. We can maintain our own culture and identity while still embracing Canadian culture and Canadian pride. Most of us cheer for Team Canada and Canadian athletes during the Olympics. Does not have to be an either/or.

I agree
even the US citizens call themselves "Polish-American", "Filipino-American", etc.
Unfortunately, if you ask a canadian what their nationality is - 95% of them will say their background (and omit the "-Canadian" part)
When asked - I personally say that my parents are from Philippines.

I feel as if this is only true if you ask a Canadian WITHIN Canada, since very, very, very few of us are strictly "Canadian." The VAST majority of us have some sort of ethnic roots and that is the part of identity that differentiates us from other "Canadians," therefore being the nationality we disclose. We are all Canadian in Canada, but only some of us as Phillipino, Polish, Italian, Chinese, Indian, etc.
From my experiences, Canadians ABROAD (travelling or living), Identify themselves as being primarily CANADIAN (and then disclose their further roots). As a nation, we stay together. Within our nation, we let our distinctive identities be known (and good on us! Multiculturalism FTMFW!) :D

If your citizenship says you're Canadian, guess what, you're Canadian. That's it, you abandoned your other nationality when you left that country and signed up here, unless you have dual citizenship. BEYOND THAT, you do have a background, you do have a culture, you are from somewhere, but that is not your nationality, you're flippin' Canadian.
I'm not one to hate on cultures, because the fact that Canada is a multicultural, multifaceted country is amazing, and you can learn so much about the world just talking to people here, you don't even need to leave. HOWEVER, it bothers me to no end to know I pay tax money that partially goes into immigrant services, only to have some of those same people complain about MY country, and say they're from somewhere else. If you don't like being Canadian, or Canada in general, I'll be happy to provide a ride to the airport.

Thats something else entirely. Just cause you dont ROCK a Canadian flag at any time of the year, doesnt mean you DISLIKE Canada. I find it ironic when people complain about tax money going into immigrant services... cause somewhere down the line (EITHER THEM, THEIR PARENTS, THEIR GRAND PARENTS, THEIR GREAT-GRAND PARENTS) came to Canada and had SOME sort of support. So now that you're here... now its okay to close to immigrant gates and end immigrant services...? (just something to consider) Many of these immigrants are ALSO working hard and contributing into the taxes used to fund their services.
It doesnt have to be an either-or. Im both. And proud to be both. Always will be.

If someone immigrates here in 2010 and works for two years, they still haven't paid into the services they used the way someone who worked here from their teen years did. Again, I have nothing against discussing culture, talking about heritage, being proud of where you're from (I know I am), but I'm just saying, don't walk around saying "yeah, I'm Chinese" when you've lived here for 5 years and own a business and bought your car here...you're Canadian. And really, not all of us had ancestors who used immigrant services. Some of our families immigrated here before they even HAD those services, some so far back that they were jumping off a boat and shooting their way into town.
Food for thought...if I went to your home country, became a citizen, abandoned my Canadian citizenship, used all your services, got a job, and still walked around saying "I'm Canadian, this place is a shit hole I miss my home country" how would people react? I think we both know the answer to that lol

The pride we have and show for Canada is not the same as we have our own native countries.
Got doubts? Check out the Italian and Brazilian pride that pours out onto the streets after a win in the Euro tournament.
Even when Canada wins Gold at the Olympics, you don't see the same passion.
I never said anyone is ashamed to be Canadian. However, most non white (english, scottish, etc) identify with their native country much more than Canada.
Canada seems more like a country we all live in. There really isn't anything that unites all the immigrants here.

I agree with that. Just saying that I dont believe people intend to be disrespectful/ungrateful of Canada when they disclose their nationality as their country of origin, I just feel like since ALL OF US in Canada (except refugee's, tourists, etc) ARE CANADIAN, it would be redundant to be like "Im Canadian." So people just skip right to the other part of their identity.
Meh. Hope people are proud of not only where they came from, but where they are. If not, they should move LOL.

Yup, that's how I feel as well.
However, for the amount of people who hate them, there is the same amount of that love them.
Marta: Don't get caught up about people calling the flags "gayness". Opinions are like a$$holes, we all have one. If you are comfortable rocking the flags, then by all means. However don't be surprised when another driver gives you a silly look.

I can't stand soccer either, so I guess we're in the same 10% boat. We should stage a protest in a public park, I'll bring the tents.
I can't have respect for "athletes" who can't take a sprained ankle without making a public scene reminiscent of when darth vader realized he'd killed his own son.

That's the same argument everyone makes against soccer players. It's a shame the ones who do it ruin the reputation for those who don't and cause that lack of respect.

LOL lets be fat Americans and play baseball then? no running involved just stand there and hit a ball? thats your opinion but soccer is the #1 played sport in the world. its affordable for everyone and is enjoyed by the entire world. its the North American mentality that players are "faking" getting hurt. Sure some players may embellish when they get hurt but at the end of the day soccer is a much more athletic sport than some other sports.
