So apparently the member who had the unfortunate incident with his Skyactiv isn't the only person to have their MZ3 catch fire randomly. This video is in Scarborough, and there's other videos of it too. If you search "Mazda 3 on fire" you get a number of results from other forums, along with youtube comments, regarding their Mazda 3 having caught on fire (actually open the links) for no apparent reason. Are our cars a fire hazard? Are Mazda 3 owners inherently irresponsible smokers? Nobody knows, but this video is definitely worth the 30 seconds.

Second guessing tells me this should be in Multimedia? My bad if I put it in the wrong section.

Oh man this sucks... Maybe there's some Chrysler owner out there whose jealous our cars work and theirs always catch fire - so they're sabotaging Mazda3s...

Wow, that's crazy!! This is about 5 minutes away from where I live.. Hard to tell but, it looks like a gen 1, based on the 5 spoke wheels...

It's either a civic is beside the flaming car or he is calling the flaming car a civic!

Vid was posted in April 2010, so it's more likely a gen one (gen two had barely come out). The roofline and bottom of the doors makes it look like a two, but the video is blurry so I can't tell if my perception is just off. Either way I'd be pissed to come out of the liquor store ready for a good night, only to find my car is engulfed in flames!

Liquor store?

Assumption: a Spark combusted from the Underbody of the car in which lit on fire due to spilt liquor?

Maybe there was someone drinking under his car! It all makes sense now :chuckle

hadn't gen 2 been out for a while at that point?

as I recall, the 2010 Mazda3 came out in mid-2009, and as a result the 2009 model year was extremely short (for the mz3)

nearly all cars come out half a year early... i dont remember which month but its to keep the market competitive. it could possibly be a new gen 2 and had an electrical problem that mazda didnt catch yet. or it was a gen one and something got too hot under the hood, fuel rail leak/burst? TBH it could be anything from a homeless guy throwing an un-extinguished match from a smoke, to the fire of mordor opening a dimension under his hood. just curios, how would something like be handled?? insurance? rainy day fund?

Starting to get that funny feeling, krimsalt has had a few bad experiences with Chrysler

From n00bmeisters Towin vehicle thread....

Chrysler is still the worst car company on the market

Mid-2009 is roughly a year before this video was posted, so the second gen 3 had only been out for less than a year. Statistics and those 5 spokes say it's probably a gen one, but like I said it's hard to tell. Someone could have bought a new 3 and put their 5 spoke wheels on it, but who knows lol I hope I never see my car in that condition.

The last video looks like a gen 1 for sure. Very weird that this "problem" only seems to be popping up now after there has been a full redesign.
