Ive been looking to replace my tired struts/shocks with Koni Yellows. However, I cant really decide whether to go with springs or not.

I do Solo 2 (Autocross) and springs would push me up to mod class, whereas struts only allows me to stay in stock.

I want to upgrade my suspension but wanted to know what degree of improvement the springs will give me.

Is there a significant improvement by upgrading to Koni Yellows from stock? Is there a significant improvement when adding springs to Koni Yellows?

Another issue I have is insurance if I ever had to make a claim. It is well known that insurance companies do not like performance/suspension mods. From my understanding, power adding/lowering your car gives the insurance company the right to deny your claim if you ever had to make one. When I was looking for a car some 2-3 years ago, I mentioned that some cars already come modded and asked if mods were okay and he said "as long as the mods are nothing too crazy like turbo/superchargers". (I have this in writing in my email account) In a situation where a claim were to be denied due to suspension modifications, would this email protect me or is it worthless?

I recently went from stock struts/shocks to Koni Yellows and noticed a HUGE difference for the better. Stiffer springs might help a bit with handling but I think the struts/springs make the biggest difference. If it'll keep you in the same class and you don't care about the aesthetic of being low, I'd just do the Koni Yellow's and call it a day.

Pretty much the only reason why I'm considering springs is that its only $200-300 more and if it makes the car handle significantly better, then I may go for it. But insurance/track classing is still on my mind.

I dont really care about making the car look low, mostly performance.

Have to agree with crunchbox that dampers made the biggest difference. As for insurance, paint whatever you can black (i.e. had springs powder coated black from road magnet, plasti dip strut bar and sway bar) and in the event of accident swap everything out to stock (at jimmys). The aftermarket dampers would be fine though...

As much as i would hate for you to move up to b-mod, it would be fun to watch you and azi go at it (would be a good challenge for you). I think its time to take the next step!

From an insurance standpoint, I heard as long as you stay stock ride height it should be fine (otherwise everyone with OEM replacements would have an issue).

After I max out in points in B-stock, I may move up to B-mod just to make things interesting.

I talked to an insurance person(? not sure what they were actually but they were the prepurchase support question people) even if you stay ride height (especially if you have adjustable) it's still an issue as there is a clause on most/all insurance company about non disclosure. From what people have told me countless times, most people dont run into issues with it, but you can for just about anything. If the adjusters don't notice it you're good to go ;]
