So I know a Service Manager from a mazda dealership (unnamed of course), and he provided me with the wire layout for my 2012 GS skyactiv (no bose sudio) because I am upgrading my system (pics n separate thread to follow in the ICE section) ....So I decided since there are lots of dudes upgrading their headunit, speakers, adding amps n what not, I thought I would make a contribution and share this with you guys. This collection of jpegs INCLUDE WITH OR WITHOUT bose audio. I think you should find this useful...I know I do :D

here goes...the first group is for the stereo WITHOUT Bose and are 3 pages in total;

The following is FOR CARS WITH Bose audio (2 pages in total)

Enjoy and go forth car stereo modders and "May the force be wi"....ahem....I mean "May the VOLUME BE WITH YOU"!! :chuckle

Hey guys,
So I made a lengthy post on another thread that a guy was asking about which wire to connect the blue signal wire with. Up till now, there are at least 3 different options that are being posted. I also mentioned that as Jalal and I were doing the final install of the amp n speakers, we got stopped dead in our tracks with what wire to connect the signal wire to.

We did see the "yellow wire w silver dots" but it was not in the spot everyone says its supposed to be. So I contacted my source and was provided with another detailed schematic of the wire that the signal wire can connect with. Apparently it's position "1R" on the molex, but I don't know what color the wire is. Gonna post the diagram tonite but if someone knows anything please post it
Thanks

..................................so.............. .........NObody's got any imput on the color of the wire to identify? I'm planning on fixing it this weekend and I'd like to have a plan. Can anyone chime in or help me out with the wire identity?

ok so I can't edit my first post but here is the other 2 sheets I was able to get hold of. As you will see on the third page, the wire I need to connect to is labeled as "IGNITION SWITCH (ACC). If you follow that line through the "fuse block" w/the 7.5 amp fuse, you will see that it ends up at the headunit molex harness at a slot labeled as "1R".

But BEFORE it actually makes the connection, if you look at where I made a circle, it is ALSO has some kind of designate as "SB(I)" so I am assuming that "SB: is "SILVER BROWN" but I don't know what the "(I)" stands for. Now as I said earlier, I'm by no means an electrician so I don't understand these lines, ref #'s, letter designates, etc, so

I'm looking for some help/assistance/mercy...whatev you wanna call it...anyway, enough whining...here are the additional pages to the 2011 mz3 headunit WITHOUT BOSE; ****note if you cannot see the images in my first post, or links are dead (cannot see), I am posting them again here since there are now 5 pages in total for the mz3 WITHOUT bose;

If I don't get a response from anyone by Friday, I will be trying to fix this on the weekend and I'll let you know the wire color, how I did it, whutev....so any help you can provide before then would be awesome!!! :) thanx

Edit; gotta make corrections to 3 n 4 so I'll repost the images tonite :(

Alright so here it is as planned. What I wanted to do was to highlight n circle the spot on the diagram that is most important and make it easier to see for other people like me that are "electrically diagramed illiterate" :chuckle I know I know those aren't even words :loco but it gets the point across though...ahem back on track guys

Not sure if I mentioned but while we were doing the install, I made a point of noting the wire colors and id marks (ie lavender wire with yellow stripe) and labeled them appropriately so we could id them when we got to the head unit. But when we got the headunit out and unplugged the molex with the speaker wires etc, we noticed that the wire colors changed :bang :flaming :whoa (my order of emotions at the time) probably some mazda electricians sick joke to f*&K up what WOULD have been a modders otherwise perfect day. So luckily I printed out a few forum posts before install day and the service manual sheets I got from my source that id'd the spots where the wires were by number. After some deciphering we were able to figure out which wires were the left front, right front etc etc.

We saved the most important wire for last.......the blue signal wire :rolleyes. Now in another post, Year of the Rat said that the wire we needed to hook up to was a yellow wire w silver dots. Now some people indeed have had success with this one and some didn't so this cast some doubt as to whether we should use this wire. Dave2010gt said the wire he used was a "red" wire and THAT one was the one to use. We took into consideration the earlier finding about the speaker wires being different colors by the time it reached the molex and decided it might not be a good idea to go with it unless we were able to POSITIVELY identify this wire known as the "ignition switch", "12v ignition", "the signal wire", whatever you wanna call it. I don't think anyone was wrong as to which wire they used. I think this is what was/is causing trouble with sooo many different stories about which wire to use because I think with each model year, Mazda was making small modifications as to where the wire was placed, what color they used, and NOT to mention using a different color wire en route to the headunit harness with each model year!!!

I mean WHO THE F*(K ever heard of changing wire colors enroute from the speaker to the headunit !!!:bang

Anyway, moving on......On a link that was provided in that same thread, some guy said that he used the wire located at position (1R), and he said it works perfectly. It was only after I received the 2 updated sheets from my source giving a closer look at the headunit and ignition switch id # (1R) did I realize I believe I finally found the elusive signal wire!! :huge smile
Here are the 2 extra diagrams...****NOTE: the following 2 go with the other 3 diagrams above****

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l229/paybax/zoomahhs%202012%20GS%20SkyActiv/2011mz3headunitWITHOUTBOSE3-5.jpg

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l229/paybax/zoomahhs%202012%20GS%20SkyActiv/2011mz3headunitWITHOUTBOSE4of5.jpg

The only thing I can't figure out is their reference about "wire colors are indicated by numbers" !!!??? WTF does that mean???!!! because they don't give a chart to reference with, that statement is worthless. So I figured out a way how I can identify this wire on the molex. While we were wiring the speaker wires and "high-level input" wires, I made little sticker tabs with each speaker wire and stuck it to each wire and made the connection. Once we made all our connections, we tested the fader, and balance controls to make sure that when I changed balance to the "right side speakers", left side etc., the sound would come out the appropriate side....and they did :huge smile . Now all I have to do this weekend is haul out the headunit, look at the speaker tab that corresponds to spot (1S) which is directly above spot (1R)...orient my wire diagram...and BOOM! ! ! ! Bob's ur F*&%^ng uncle :chuckle I will also add what color I found to be the "wire of the day" as well. Hope this has and will help anyone else doing their own ICE upgrade.

Oh and I will also make note of the all the speaker wires that go into the molex and post those as well.
Thanks for looking and stay tuned for more breaking news ladies n gents :)

Not sure if anyone knows but the wire schematic for the molex shown in diagram 0920-2a, the proper way to interpret this diagram for proper orientation is this way;
It's as if you are looking at the back of the molex...that is to say, you have unplugged your molex from the headunit, you have the wires in hand and your looking at from where the wires plug into and NOT looking at the pins.

When it comes to diagrams and perspective, I literally S U C K at it :P and since I figure there may be other people upgrading their sound system, one might find this info useful. :)
