So I have a business trip starting from Aug 4th until August 10th in Los Angeles for a tradeshow and I will be staying in California for an additional 4 days, Aug 11th - 14th, returning on the 14th to Toronto.

Has anyone gone to Los Angeles? I was thinking of seeing Los Angeles at night (during the week of 4th-10th) after work then use August 11th to 14th to rent a car, drive on highway 101, enjoy the scenery and finally arrive to San Francisco and see a few things there...

I feel like it is going to be tight for San Francisco since its about an 8 hour drive from LA to San Fran.. any suggestions? experiences?

Also, anyone recommends special/unique places to visit while in either cities? I am looking for ideas.... discuss away :)

Thanks in advance to all contributors!

Do it - I love California and the PCH. Everywhere is beautiful...

Are you a beach person, nature person, city person? I like the Monterey Aquarium, the Red Wood forests, Standford, beach towns, etc.

San Diego is great city too - if you wanna go the opposite direction of SF.

I actually was in Las Vegas a month ago for business as well. I saw it and enjoyed that as well :) I regret not being able (ie having enough time) to visit Grand Canyon though... :(

That is great!!! I am really wondering whether it will be possible to see Los Angeles (during the night) while I am on work... are Taxi's cheap? expensive? better to rent a car?

I was going to see San Francisco August 11th onwards till August 13th night time (since 14th I have flight at 1:30pm back to Toronto). I really want to see Silicon Valley as well... Golden Gate bridge and other natural scences... downtown areas...

San Diego looks awesome! ... I want to see it too, but San Francisco is more of an interest because its close to Silicon Valley and Golden Gate bridge...

I dont mind the beach, but I certainly won't spend more than a few hours especially since my time is so limited... I absolutely love nature and large scenes... I also love the city... I enjoy everything, which is why I have a feeling it could be tight to see both LA and SF...

In terms of a schedule, I had something like this in mind...

August 4th - August 10th:

-everyday after work (5-6pm), see bits and pieces of LA... I think Taxi will be expensive, so I will check out rental... I hope driving isn't too bad in the city ...
-Places in mind: Hollywood walk of fame (stars on ground) and famous sign, Venice beach/Malibu Beach, Universal Studios, third street outter mall (sounds interesting...), drive a bit in downtown, beverly hills, check out Disneyland from far (wont enter).. any other suggestions???

before San Fransisco (august 11th-12th): enjoy cruise along hwy 101... any interesting scenes along the highway? will visit Monterey bay aquarium for sure... any other ideas along that hwy?

- Silicon Valley, visit my corporate head quarters... other notable companies...
- San Jose? any attractions in mind?

August 13th,

- check out San Francisco Golden Gate bridge, lombard street, still checking out attractions...

feels extremely tight.. :(
