I would have your axle looked at. The CV joint is part of the axle.
Wheel bearings typically make more of a grinding type nose, but that doesn't mean you should rule it out entirely.
Have your brakes looked at while you're at it.

Same issue i had...ticking noise from left rear wheel and steering wheel shakes when i break..
Solved it...it was my wheel bearing and the shaking of the steering wheel while brakig was caused by getting my car lowered without allignement
thanks for the help everybody and Mazdy do u recall how much it costed to get the wheel bearing replaced ?

Sorry i dont know how much it really is because i took it and they replace for free because of warranty
But get it checked first because from how you describe it, it sounds like the same issue i had...so yours might be different..
Like what others have said to check..might be one of those..

Cost $348 to replace the FRONT wheel bearing and seal at the Mazda dealer. ~$78 for the bearing ~$9 for the seal and the rest was labour, something like 2.1 hours. Might be less in the US though.
The rear is a different style of bearing so it's hard to say if it would be close to the same price.
well my buddy that told me it was my wheel bearing is pretty good at diagnosing i was just looking for any more opinions in any case i will take all of your advice and get it checked before i start replacing things haha . thank you all very much :o)
yikes $348 is a little steep for just before vacation lol maybe i will see about doing the work myself ?
Wheel shaking while applying breaks is warped rotors...
Take a look at the pads... You should be able to see if their done or not... Your brakes might need changing

Rear is pretty doable on your own if you have some basic tools and decent mechanical skills. If it is the front, it is also doable on our own but quite a bit more involved (you'll need more tools and more skills). Once you get it all out you will need to take it somewhere that has a large press to press the new bearing into the spindle. Also, it can sometimes be a bitch to get the old bearing out, specifically the inner race off of the hub.
