View Full Version : Brake Maintenance?

So I was at Mazda the other day, and they recommended I get my brake maintenance done (grease/clean) at a cost of 210 dollars. I do not wish to pay 210 dollars. So my question is, is there any how-to-guide on brake maint? I've been looking around here but found a bunch of squeaky brake threads that didn't teach me how to do this myself. I'd much rather do it with someone experienced there, and remember someone mentioning they'd be willing to help when I brought my brake noise up months ago but have no idea who it was.
Anyone willing to help me out? I've got a driveway we can work on and beer in my fridge, along with wings, steaks, burgers, etc :chuckle
Don't bother doing it... I never did mine and I'm at 160,000km with no issues and my sister in law never did hers and hers is at 213,000km with no issues and both of our cars is 2008

If you really want to get it done, talk to Jimmy.
I'm sure he can do for much less than 210.
There is no way it's 210. Maybe there was some miscommunication and what they were referring to is the yearly service which includes brake service and is $200~. Anyways I would give jimmy a shout, I'm sure he can do it for a fraction of the cost.

It's brake maintenance, pretty basic stuff. Remove, clean, lube, replace if needed, reinstall.

Brake cleaning if pretty easy. I've taken mine apart and reassembled, and it took 30 minutes the first time, and 20 for the rest. I'm sure you can do it.

If you can't find anyone to show you how to do it, this is a very reasonable price for the service.

I got a quote from Jim for this and it was higher than Highline's price but then again, that was when he was at his old shop, so make of it what you will. That said, there are lots of decent resources for DIY brake maintenance if you're willing to look for them (hint hint, youtube).
You could always show up to an install meet too, I'm sure the NATOR guys or Hyperion would help out if you asked nicely.
