So I've pretty much decided I want to start a little collection of diecast car models... When I was younger I had quite a few that I always got gifted to me throughout the years as presents for my birthday, christmas, etc... unfortunately got rid of them all at a garage sale 5-6 years ago. Now wishing I hadn't!
Just looking for some tips/ advice from anyone on here who collects... What brands are the best? I'm thinking 1:18 scale... where do you purchase?
Anyone with any info or collections i'd love some pointers / see some pictures of your existing collection.
Thanks :)

woah woah woah slow down there. first of all, what kind of die casts would you like to collect? the big names might cost a lot, and theyre beuatifull. however you can only put them there, and admire. while i collect jada die casts, i collect the rarer ones. then i customize them and they look absolutely amazing. just shows you dont have to spend a bunch of money to get something nice. even some hotwheels are very nice. i put them all over the house and wont have to worry about something breaking off. my favorite is my jada s30z wangan midnight replica. spent a lot of time on it lol

I've got over 50 1:18 scale. Most of them are Maisto and Burago cause they are cheeper (>40). I do have an autoart of a RX8 from when they first came out and I was obsessed with them. it's got fuzzy carpets and a removable engine cover, pretty neat but cost more than 100 bucks. JADI makes some nice models too (lower selection) I've got a TVR and a Lotus by them.

I have in excess of 400 cars in my collection; 1/43, 1/18 and a few odd 1/20 picked up in Japan a few years ago. And like everything else in life, you really do get what you pay for. If you simply want to fill a spot on a shelf you will buy them from Costco, but if you want to start a serious collection you will buy from a place like Toronto Motorsports on Port Union Road, or from the Motorsports Collector in Downers Grove, Illinois.
And seeing as we are on a Mazda forum, let me show you one of my favourites.............the 1991 Mazda 787B........the only Japanese car to ever win the 24 Hours of LeMans.

And another favourite...............a 1971 Porsche 908/3

The hobby can be incredibly expensive if you allow it to be. The priciest pieces are generally feature exquisite detail. Autoart make good ones, as does Minichamps, but the up and comer in the hobby is Spark.
Have fun.

those are gorgeous! but some poeple like to work on the model and customize them, like mee~ computer parts is always a great way to add detail to any diecast cars. the small stuff on circuit boards and the wires make for great scalled down car parts

Good luck installing "computer parts" on a 1971 Porsche 908/3. And trust me, they all have highly detailed engine compartments, working suspension, removable wheels which highlight the detailed brakes etc etc..............and in the case of the Mazda a very, very detailed instrument panel and working gear lever and linkage.
