So i went to change my address on my ownership for my car. i was told i had an outstanding parking ticket on my plates. I live in Ottawa so i called the city of ottawa and they found nothing on my plates that was not paid.
i was wondering if anyone knows how to find out where this ticket is from and what day it was from.

MTO couldn't tell you this info?
Well Service Ontario said they couldn't tell us where or when it was from... you would think they would have that information on hand if they're readily accepting payments for it and refusing license plate renewal :S
I'm not sure calling MTO directly would help as they don't seem to deal much with parking infractions, as per their website (maybe I'm just missing it). No harm in trying though. Very strange mix up.

When you go in to change your ownership, the should have the info for you. You just may not be able to get it online or from a kiosk.

^ Like I said they wouldn't tell us.
Either way, we figured it out. Apparently Gab owns a black Ford????
Looks like a victim of identity fraud :(

Shitty deal. I know here I have been there with a friend when that happened. He got the information needed with zero hassle. He then went and opened a case at the court house and didn't have to pay the tickets till next renewal. (He never got the ticket originally and it was dropped in court)
It's kind of a bitch trying to reopen an old case though.
That sucks about identity theft and I'm not sure how they expected you to pay for something if they couldn't tell you what it was for. Glad you got it sorted out though

**oops, didn't notice the "we figured it out" part in MB's post**
It's not a very quick solution, but wouldn't that info show up on a drivers abstract? You can order them online and that should include a list of any and all tickets you have ever received in the last 10 years or something.
The downside is, they will only send it by mail, or at least that was the case when I did it a few years ago.
You might also want to do a credit check with TransUnion or Equifax. It's only $20 and you can find out if Gab owns a black ford he doesn't know about :)

Your abstract only shows moving violations. You can go to the DMV and ask for a printout of any outstanding parking tickets/fines
You can also get your abstract from a machine. On the spot, it's $30.00 I believe as I had to get one for a previous job and needed it asap

Ah, they either didn't have or I didn't know about those machines when I got mine.
As more of it is coming back to me now, isn't there two kinds of abstract a 3 or 5 year, that you can get quickish, from the machine. Or a really detailed one of your complete history that costs more that you have to wait to get mailed?
Like I said my mind is bit fuzzy about exactly what process I followed.
Didn't know it only showed moving violations though, good to know :)

The machines dont exist anymore. they took them out due to fraud issues.
and yes i knew about the drivers abstract only showing moving violations as i got one of them not too long ago.
the courthouse was really helpfull as opposed to the MTO and service ontario. stupid how the 2 after the money dont know anything about the ticket.
Just have to wait to hear back from the courthouse now and see what happens with the ticket now

I think you're right, the kiosks have been temporarily shut down until they can work out the security issues they have been having
