OKay, so I bought my 2012 Mazda 3 Sport SkyActiv on Saturday through a Mazda dealer :bana2 Now I'm kinda confused about the insurance part.

I am currently insured under my parents but I will be getting my own with a different company tomorrow.
I asked the dealer what I needed to do for insurance he said "just bring a temporary insurance slip" (on the day I pick the car up). Now this confused me.
How do they get the plates if they don't have my insurance info? I can't take the car if they don't have my plates.

Maybe if someone could explain how this whole process works (getting the dealer to get my plates/car registration) I might understand it better.

Thanks :)

Call your insurance company, they can send you a temp slip.
If its a new policy you may need the VIN before they will send you a slip and possibly a bill of sale.

It's really simple, your new insurance provider will walk you through it all.

As I recall the dealer can plate the car without your insurance. However, they can not release the car to you without proof of insurance. Most insurance companies can fax the dealer a temporary insurance certificate, until you get your proper slips in the mail.
If you have questions, the dealer sales representative or Business Manager should be able and willing to answer your questions.

With that said, congratulations on the new car, and please join us at Heart For Heart -

Stay at the dealership, call the agency and tell them the VIN and they ask you questions about what your use of the car will be and will come up with a new premium for you. Then they fax the dealership some documents and the temp insurance slip and the dealer should grab you new plates.

I just bought a new car as well, a few months back and was also on my parents insurance before hand. You just have to call whoever you plan to be with for insurance, give them all the info the ask for, and they will email you a temp insurance slip ( a printable version ) until they mail you the actual insurance slips.. other than that I don't remember doing much of anything, I'm pretty sure I only had to take the temp insurance slip in when I picked it up as well.

Congratz on the purchase, you're gonna love it :)
