Has anyone been to Sault Ste Marie?
Is there anything interesting to do?
I have to fly in for a 30 min job and can't fly back till the end of the day, so I need something to do to kill some time.
Looking for anywhere good to eat, and other ways to kill an entire day.
I love Porter Airlines but the morning flights are so close together that I can't do the work an hop back on the same flight and the next flight is 6 hours later.
I'll go nuts sitting in the airport for that long.

according to a friend of mine who visits family there regularly, there is absolutely nothing to do. Maybe save for crossing the border for cheap booze.

HAHA, doesn't sound that bad
HAHA, doesn't sound that bad
Your best bet would be to hit the casino their (if it's still open)
Been there a few times to visit family and that's all there is to do basically. You're better off going across the border if you have some time, if not be your own entertainment. I would say if the ohl or university team are playing hockey the whole town usually goes to watch, other then that your out of luck my friend lol

It may even be worth it to get a hotel and catch up on some zzzs and watch some tv.

Born and raised there....
Delighted to have escaped..
Nothing to do there, unless you have family or a skidoo..or family with a skidoo.
Cheap booze icon the state side, 25 cents schnapps shots!

No family there and I don't think there's enough snow there yet. I'm going in the AM tomorrow. Definitely a full charge on the phone will be needed.
Dunno about the hotel but brunch and dinner are options.

There is the bush plane heritage museum. It's cool, if your into planes. Studio 10, aka the dime, is a dirty strip club where anything goes...ANYTHING!!! Other then that, lots of outdoorsy stuff.

Cool. Thanks. I'll check out the planes for sure. Anything mechanical is always interesting to me.

Sault Ste Marie sucks. I couldn't wait to get out of there because all of the streets are one way even the GPS is confused... its like an episode of Twilight Zone... you can never leave.

With all the one way streets, are you saying I should get the rental car insurance. Haha.

It's not that bad. Couple one ways downtown. TO is way worse. There is however a 5 way intersection that no one stops at, even if the light is red...its f'ed up!!

The casino...go to one of the pasta resteraunts, giovani's or w/e they're called. Go down by the water for a bit or out to lake superior. There's some hiking trails by the old locks too that are pretty nice. There is that strip club, studio something or other right by the steel mill.

Lived and worked there for 2 years.....hated it.
To kill that amount of time I'd say hit the casino for a cheap meal, and either head to Studio 10 (The Dime) to laugh at the toothless women dancing or head to the "mall" (which I put in quotes because it's a sad excuse for a mall) near the casino and laugh at the toothless women shop.
Good luck!

Went to Giovannis, and then out for a couple pints. Met a guy at the airport that was in the predicament and he covered the cabs because his work was covering them.
Wasn't even a rental car to be had at the airport, just SUVs and at $100/day, I passed on that.
Not a bad town but I wouldn't go back for anything but work.
Cell coverage is lacking and my battery life was crap because it was constantly looking for signal.
Did get a lot of personal work done via email though.
Giovanni's gets a 9/10 for Sault Ste Marie but a 6/10 anywhere else

You could say it is the best of the worst.

That's what I was thinking. It beats food court stuff but not really a decent restaurant

405 of the businesses were closed. It was quite the little town, 77,000 people according to a couple people I spoke with but they must all live a few miles apart
Nice place to drive through though HAHA

77,000?? yeah okay... Not even close. As soon as Algoma Steel started going south people left in droves.
The Soo is destined to be the next Elliot Lake.
Sign says 80,000+ but on the back of the sign it says, "Last person out, please turn off the lights."

Yo! sault representin'! Giovanni's is BALLS. Try Panna for cool tasty eats. Do Cesira's for italian. Drinking; Reggie's is a must see. TopHat is ok for weekends. HOORES! haha. ALso, the strippers are pretty terrible here, so u can miss out on studio10.

Geographically, the sault can only grow. Check out a map. If you like to do shit outside, it's a great place to be. I've done Kitchener/Waterwoo, London, TO.... much happier to be back up north. Get a warm coat. But if we judge a city on #of MS3s, we're hurtin. Besides myself, only 1.
