Anyone on the board a stainless steel fabricator and welder ?
I need a small railing made for an insurance job. It looks something like this.

I posted a picture of what happened in the Friday thread. It will require rounded bending of the steel.

My dad is a welder (by trade). I'm out in Waterloo, but I'm sure he could hook you up if you're interested.
is this round or square tube?

It's solid bar stock. 2 1/2" x 3/4" or 1/2" thick.
I actually weld myself but don't have the ability for stainless or to bend. Is your dad able to weld stainless and bend as well? Most iron welders do not weld stainless or aluminum. Unless there is a good ventilation system, the different metals can't be welded in the same shop. The dust aparantly cause some sort of contamination. ( this is from another welder)
I do have another guy lined up, but he hasn't gotten back to me yet.

I'm almost certain he does quite a bit of stainless work, but I'll check to make sure. Not sure how they bend square stock but I'll ask that too.

I work for an industrial manufacturing company that could do just this sort of thing...unfortunately I just resigned and will be moving on after next thursday. I might be able to get this rushed through or at least "in-process" before I leave...it seems pretty dead simple. We'd laser cut the pieces from 1/2" or 5/8" stainless, machine the corners & edges round, form them on a brake press then TIG weld it together and polish or powdercoat. Unfortunately we're a rather large company and sometimes doing small projects through official channels can take longer than I'd like....depending on your budget and timeline it might be wise to have a smaller shop make this. Shouldnt take long for someone eager to work.

The contamination is only if the shop melts down the leftover metal shavings/scrap pieces if I remember correctly. They can't be melted in the same equipment because they react differently at different temperatures. For this same reason, using an inappropriate torch to weld a metal might be a bad idea. For the record, I don't weld, and know next to nothing about it, but a long while back I worked in an aluminum products manufacturing environment and this is what I was told about the metals.

hey there I am the manager of Suncor Stainless in Orangeville and we specialize in Stainless steel hardware -Rigging- Architectural- Railings and such. For this railing I would call Stainless Steel Outfitters in Barrie as they can accommodate what you are looking for and do it quickly. I have used these guys before in a pinch on stuff and they do great work at a reasonable price.

Never used these guys before, but sat down with the owner to discuss a custom table leg and he was great.
