hey guys,
Ive been driving my speed3 around for the past week and have realized that the braking power is not strong enough..not sure if there is something wrong with them or it could just be made like that. Im comparing this to a 2008 altima that i test drove and found that the brakes were much stronger and sensitive which i really like.
I was just wondering if I can do something that would replicate the altima's braking power either by getting new brake pads, rotors, calipers, fluid?
thanks in advance!!

touchy brakes are hard to control... many people driving those mid-size cars like that because it makes them feel safe
the MS3 brakes are designed for high temperature and ease of control in mind... they will stop plenty good once they are heated up... if you want the brakes to be more responsive, then you will need crappier pads, which have a lower temperature coefficient, making it work great for the street but suckage on the track or even a couple of hard stops on the highway or fun in the back roads
you can upgrade the rear brakes to the slightly larger stock mazda5 brakes also, it'll help things a little
The ms3 brakes are good
Get your checked out. If that fails, sell ms3 and buy a Nissan Altima

thank you for your reply!
I guess it's something i have to get use too!
Don't listen to them. Dont settle for less, if I were you I would upgrade to a bbk; many options available from brembo, stoptech etc.
And you can offset some of that cost by selling me your entire caliper and rotor ($100?) :)

Bbk = big brake kit

I have a lot of research ahead of me lol Hopefully it will be a reasonably priced upgrade!
Also, Does the MS3 have braided steel lines? Might remove some spongy/flex feel from the brakes.

on my mazda 3 i used stainless lines, race brake fluid and HP+ pads... great for street... if you can handle the noise lol.. wife hates it, i love it...
HOWEVER I could manage to overheat them in a few situations, not good enough for track obviously... feels almost as good as my other track car which has willwoods 6pot front and 4pot rear... but obviously would fade under track conditions.. that being said my mazda is my family car.. I just hate cars feeling sloppy/unresponsive so I upgrade all of them -_-;
If I had some money id do the ms3 oem bbk with mz6 rear brakes... and maybe even hp+ on this... still cheaper than a bbk from stoptech/bremo/etc...
The good thing about the oem bbk is that you could still use 16"!... i'm thinking some lightweight 16x8 rpf1s and sticky 225/50/16 would be awesome.. some sticky 225s run wider so it'd be perfect! Light and sticky!
That being said... you need some good tires to take advantage of that braking power.

Ksport has a pretty sick setup for our cars. Need a set of 18's (if you drive an MS3, shouldn't be an issue) The kit i think was around 1700. New 4 piston calipers, w/ pads and rotors. Don't bother upgrading your hoses unless its a requirement from the kit (some you do, some you don't) Keep in mind, anything like this, you will probably need to contact the company direct for new pads//rotor compatibility. It can get pricy as hell.
I agree w/ others, if your brakes are not stopping your car, get them checked. My GS Sport is pretty damn good.... Maybe you have air bubbles...?

if your not going to track the car, just get braided lines, and hp+ pads. done.

Might need a bleed.
Have fixed this issue on a few cars before, by doing so.
That's almost a free fix, depending on how bad your situation may be.
After that, there are quite a few other options in this thread but having driven an 07 Altima with stock brakes and my Speed 3 with HPS, it's night and day really.
You really don't NEED a BBK for street driving.
You also may just need to get use to the pedal feel but I would 100% start with a bleed if you bought it used.

do a brake fluid flush. Also check your fluid level, it may be low
If you don't like the stock ms3 pads, don't upgrade to a progressive pad such as the hawk HP+
The pedal will feel totally different, you won't get that instant bite and your car will sound like a bus
And they need to be nice and hot to work
