It was an unfortunate accident and some reports say the lady was impaired. My sister works at creditvalley hospital and she was saying the state of the lady when she was airlifted in was in her words "beyond belief" even though she had already passed away during the helicopter ride.
My condolences to all her friends and family who have to go through this.

what i want to know.. is how they heck do you get on it the wrong way.. like around the trafalgar sure its a bit easier but you would have to go right at the off ramp lights and up the ramp to the hwy..

Was gonna say... These highways are almost idiot proof IMO...
Such bad luck for the victims..
PS: Looks like the 3 has RX8 rims.
Wonder how long she was on the 407 going the wrong way before the accident? Anyways that's rough. Sorry to hear things like this. Believe it or not this happens often on hwy 7 near my work place. Police always come on site to inform me they're leaving a car on the hotel lot because they're haulin someone away for driving in the wrong side

stupid drunk drivers, no matter what there's gonna be some idiot that still does it every long weekend. it always seems like the drunk drivers get out of these damn crashes alive and well while whoever they hit winds up dead. its tragic :(
Oh snap, just realized after reading this thoroughly that I knew the woman that passed away. Didnt know her personally but I did training at the Don Jail for my Correctional Officer course and she's one of the women that I shadowed. Didn't clue into me till I saw the part where she worked in the Jail. We usually go by last names there and I only knew her as, "Grimmond". Sheesh, small world, huh?

+1 heard about this on the news just sad
Horrible. So Horrible.
Its amazing how destroyed the corolla is compared to the mazda3. Its amazing that ANYONE survived this.
Stupid drunk lady. She deserves to live with what she's done.

both look pretty destroyed to me, except it looks like they cut the roof off the corolla to get the people out that's all.
never understood how you drive the wrong way on a highway, even drunk.

Well the Mazda 3 drivers side looks like it was not damaged as severely as the Corolla hence why the bitch survived.

What seems most interesting to me here is that the corolla driver didn't see the mz3 on a multilane highway going the wrong way and do something to avoid it. Obviously the drunk driver is in the wrong but what's up with that? Seems suspicious too...

Approaching each other in excess of 200km an hour will play tricks on people. Probably noticed it but thought nothing of it. Either that or the Mazda lights were off ( I see people ALL THE TIME with lights off at night. )

Here is the unfortunate part... The driver of the mazda 3 was charged for impaired driving... Project impact was just wrapping up... How did OPP miss this? I guess they all cant be in the highways at these moments.... wrong place wrong time.. My heart out goes to the family of the lady who died.... So sad and tragic.

Having experienced someone driving in the opposite direction while on the highway in the US it is very difficult to perceive. My incident happened in broad daylight and at first I didn't recognize what was happening. At first you think that the person is actually driving quite slowly since your closing rate is quite high. Once you do recognize what's happening you can be quite restricted as to escape options. Luckily in my case, the oncoming driver was straddling two lanes which left me the shoulder to avoid them. While I was fortunate to avoid them, the same can't be said for someone close behind me. To this day I can still picture the impact as I saw it through the rearview mirror.

Sounds horrid. And a very good point.. someone approaching the wrong way on a highway is so far outside the norm, first reaction would be disbelief. I think many of us who haven't experienced this situation could easily forget that.

wow that's scary. I would also be in disbelief with what is going on.. like "holy #(*$ are they coming at me?" You move left, they move right.. and BAM! Not directly head-on which seems to be the case in the crash above.
Holy crap this is just sad. Be smart, dont drink and drive. Its easy.
I wont touch any wheel of a car if ive had anything at all. I dont care how in control I am, wont touch the wheel.
