View Full Version : REDBULL STRATOS: Man jumps from edge of space October 9
So as most of you know Redbull is involved in anything athletic and extreme they can get there hands on. Tomorrow will be no different. Felix Baumgartner will be attempting to jump from the edge of the stratosphere back down to earth. He will be lifted up by a specially designed ballon and once he reaches "the edge of space," he will open the hatch and essentially free fall back down to earth in a specially designed spacesuit. This can all be seen live on Sportsnet from 8am-12pm tomorrow. Any thoughts on this whole event? I mean anything can really happen once you get that high and the elements you deal with, but this stuff has all been tested. I will for sure be watching to see what happens. You can read about everything and all the equipment below.

Nothing beats the sensation of freefall skydiving!:D
I'm quite jealous of the space suit... I would love to fall from 120,000ft!

OH btw if anyone is interested watching, its live on tv now on sportsnet. He is at 91 000 ft, on his way to 120 000 then jumping and travelling mach 1 for about 30 seconds. He will probably end up actually jumping sometime between 130-2pm

As of now he's broken 3 out of 4 records.
highest manned balloon flight, highest altitude (128 000ft), and mach 1. I believe he reached just shy of 720mph which is absolutely insane for a human body to travel. was short of the free fall record by 14 seconds. Was simply amazing that he was able to do that and the coverage of everything.

Very nice and awesome feat and courage. I would think trying to stabilize at free fall of about 1000km/h would be the most difficult to accomplish, yet he's done it quite remarkably. Best 4-5 minute video of a man jumping off. :thumbsup

Shame he just lost out on the longest free fall record, it seems like he could of waited longer :/

At one point in time he was saying he feels like he's gonna pass out.
Simply amazing.
Who says RedBull doesn't give you wings? :P

pretty amazing indeed
for anyone who missed it, or what to watch it again. This is a video from the time he left the platform till he landed. Just to see he how amazing this was, and the ridiculous body spinning he was going trough and had to straighten out, then finally touching the ground.
Not the best video I know so please be patient as there will be better ones up of course afterwards. And there is a 2 hour documentary BBC is putting together about this out in a few weeks.

Correct. He reached 833.9 mph to be exact.
And another record they broke which wasnt even part of the mission was most youtube views for a live stream at 7.1 million, breaking the previous one for the olympics of 500,000
Watched it on sportsnet lol. Waited for about 45 mins while eating lunch.

I guess she missed the part where they said he would tumble until there was enough atmosphere to create drag and the part that if he was spinning too fast his parachute would deploy automatically :P

Dear Religion,
Please take note that this week I safely dropped a man from space while you shot a child in the head for wanting to go to school.
Best regards
