View Full Version : Camber arms after lowering

To shorten up the story, I procrastinated getting an alignment done after lowering the car last year on my 08.5 hatch. I didn't drive too much so it wasn't a huge deal. Eventually you forget about it lol. This summer my driving at least doubled if not more so when taking the car in recently, the tires were just about bald. Tried to get Mazda to do the alignment but car is too low, I didn't think it would be too low but I guess the bumper reduced the clearance. So I took it to another place that handles lowered cars. They did the front alignment but couldn't do the rear because I guess its not adjustable? Anyways they want to charge something around 400-500 if I remember to put on camber arms and finish the alignment. Wanted to confirm you actually have to do this because I never heard this when researching last year on lowering my car, nor did Mazda ever mention that when they were going to do it.

Hey. Just a couple of questions. What are you lowered on? What was the price breakdown of arms and labour?
You can buy them from AlphaMotorsports at a great price. They are a sponsor. I got Level Auto to do the install and alignment. It should come out to less than $400.
Eibach camber kits is just under $300 to buy tax included.

The statement is correct, rears are not adjustable without camber arms. Not sure how you missed reading that camber arms are often needed after lowering, it is discussed in 90%+ of lowering thread discussions.
Why would Mazda mention the need for camber arms ?
If you want to save your tires your going to have to set the camber close to 0

alphamotorsports for local purchase; if you can cross the border:

*spc arms have been rebranded into ingalls, megan, eibach, raybestos etc. all from the same factory, just different packaging and pricing.

Not correct. I think Mazda allows (From the factory) a variance of up to -1.8 degrees.

in the op it wasnt said that that included the purchase of the arms, just put on and finish alignment,
i have dominant engineering camber arms, 259 i believe to my front door. 8 degrees adjustment

My car and my sister inlaws car is not at factory setting... Mine is a little in the minus cause I'm lowered and my offset on my rims are 45 and my sister inlaws is at 0 (hers is not lowered)
Doing it this way has saved her new tires from getting camber wear.
i only mentioned it to the op to save his tires.
That's too much.
How do you figure? Nextmod sells them for $250 and gofortires sells them for around the same price?
i said under $300 with tax so that's not to much...
Tell me where you found them cheaper?

There are four sponsors here off the top of my head that I know sell for less than $200. Alpha, JRP, CTA and garage16. Order reflects prices I found at the time from lowest to highest.
And if you had to go so far as to set camber to 0, then there maybe other alignment related issues such as toe.

Some of us are not in the Toronto area so me saying under $300 with tax is right

It's set at 0 for a reason.... We don't want camber wear.... Even the Mazda dealer ship here now offers aftermarket camber kits to fix the camber wear.
Tires wear awesome now with it set at 0 :)

the initial disagreement was over the statement that $300 is the cost of eibach camber arms and subsequent statements that it is too much. whatever circumstances led you to pay what amounts to double the cost for what it is sold by some sponsors here, does not apply to op (he lives in kitchener) and the quote he received.

ok...
you make it sound like you live in the middle of no where to warrant an extra $100-$150. there is nothing right about paying twice the price.
I live 1.5 hours east of toronto area .....
so either way you look at it it's still under $300 with tax like i said :loco

You can run with negative camber just fine, but make sure that the toe is adjusted to nearly 0. The best part about that is you don't need aftermarket parts. The downside is you may lose a slight bit of edge on turn-in, but I never noticed it.

Are you sure you have 0?
sister inlaws is set at 0... Her car is not lowered and running factory rims.... She drives 200km a day to go to work and back and her tires are wearing good... No more camber wear.
mine is set at -1.5 cause I was rubbing in the rear cause I am lowered and my offset is 45. Next summer my camber is going to get set at 0... I bought new rims (2012 GT rims) so it shouldn't rub anymore and I I'm buying brand new tires and no more camber wear.

Mitchell, you're low, but you're not SLAMMED low. Go in and do what Aitch said, get them to set your toe to zero or as close as they can get .

That's crazy. I didn't know anyone ran 0.
I've had more than 1.8 degrees for... ever now. Third season on the tires my toe is good though.
I'll snap a picture of her car one in the morning if I remember.... It does look weird but at least no more camber wear

I appreciate all the feedback. I guess there was a hole in my research as no one I talked to mentioned it. The quote I received was for the Eibach kit, maybe thats why its a steep price if some of you are saying its overpriced.

I wish I still had that invoice, cause I think its possible they may have even done that but I forget now.. I'll have to see if I can find it

Mitchell, do you know what your alignment specs are? I had 2.4* of camber in the rear when I had S-Techs and my tire wear wasn't that bad.
