Omg I was stuck in that too. Took me 2 hours to get to where I needed to go when it would've taken 35 minutes in normal traffic.

I only need to take 401 for 2 exits to work.
Smooth traffic as I usually don't start or finish on rush hours.
I will take local streets if I travel in rush hours.
I go from Mississauga Rd to Hurontario.

I feel your pain. I needed to go to Mississauga from Markham this morning, so I left early before the rain at 10am. I didn't get to Mississauga until noon. I was stuck from where the 5 lanes merge into 1 lane for a good 40 minutes between Bathurst and Islington.

Sometimes if I knew 401W is jammed, I will take HWY7 or Steeles all the way to 400 or 427.
Certainly half hr to 45 min, but at least it's moving!

This is why having a transponder for the 407 is useful. On days like this i would jump on

When traveling from one end of the city to the other, I went from taking the 401 95% of the time 2 years ago, to taking the 407 the majority of the time now.
There's even times where I would take either Eglington or Hwy 7 from one end of the city to the other over the 401.
...too many people in Toronto

I took an emergency trip from Sauga to Markham after work at 5pm on 407. Took me only 18 min from 407 entrance to exit. Big smile on my face.
Cost me $17 1 way, no transponder, but it will be still $13-14 with transponder. I don't know how people can take it daily unless they carpool or company pay for 407 bill.

The only reason why I take it.

If you need to get somewhere in the city during rush hour and you're planning to take the 401, you should expect traffic lol next time park your car and take the subway!

yeah i was stuck going from scarborough to brampton that day around 4pm. who's the genius that schedules construction during the day on the weekend?? I mean come on!! it took like 1 hour to get from yonge to the 400!! i ended up taking 400 to steeles and going along that. i saw a couple of 3's along the way. a dark blue 1st gen sedan with a canoe tied down to the roof and a white stock gen2 hatch.

Hats off to the scheduling genius for specifying the weekend instead of during the week. Mind you, the traffic density is not quite less on the weekends anymore. Besides with the all the online traffic reporting tools and old-school 680 radio, there is no excuse for not knowing anymore.

It would work if there was a relief line for the Bloor/Danforth subway running along either Eglinton/Sheppard/Steeles. Sadly due to short-sightedness and poor urban planning this is unlikely to happen any time soon.

It really depends on the area and surrounding land use so it's hard to understand trulankan's complaint without specifics.
Edit: I just remembered the thread name is "Traffic on the 401.. ." Good morning to me.

Construction on the 401 ALWAYS seems to take exponentially longer than anywhere else. Add in the fact that there seem to have been major construction areas between the 404 and 400 for the past 10 years, and it is ridiculously frustrating.

That spot is like a picnic area for construction workers. Nothing has changed all year...

Nothing changed? Have you seen what they've done to the highway west of the 400? West of the 410?

what I mean is they should schedule it for overnight when there are far less cars on the road then during the day on a weekend
