Hi all,

I had to take advantage of the 0% financing for 84 months on the 2012 Mazdaspeed 3's. There were only 4 left in Atlantic Canada as of Tuesday and as of yesterday, I got the last one!

I'm trading in my 2007 Mini Cooper S and should have the MS3 on Tuesday!

First two items on the checklist;
- winter tires and rims
- accessport

(Sorry for posting this again - I originally posted in the Mazdaspeed forum)

Thanks, my salesman told me that also once I get into upgrades.

I will also be going to some Halifax/Dartmouth meets since I have someone I went to school with who has an MS3.

If you're going to do the rear engine mount, you might also want to do the passenger mount and the transmission mount as well, so that the engine vibes are distributed evenly. Get the JBR trilogy mount package, it's good stuff.

However, you might want to hold off on mods until the next summer. Gives you time to evaluate the car in stock form and make sure everything is in top shape. It's hard to find any rattles and squeaks when the whole cabin is vibrating from the added noise/harshness.

p.s. get weathertech digitalfit mats, you will thank me after the winter.

Sadly, I only get to take mine home tomorrow!

It's on a ferry from PEI at 1pm and they don't think service will be able to go through it before they close at 5pm..
I will get to drive it tonight, but only take it home tomorrow

Thanks for the note. I've been looking through the weathertech Mazda logos through FLIPDADY - seems like a good deal

It will be worth the wait! When I was supposed to pick mine up, everything was in place car was out front ready to go, but they didn't review the buyout from the car I was trading in so they had to tell me to come back the next day, it was such a tease!

Interesting to hear you went with an MS3 instead of another Cooper S (or even just keeping yours). What made you sway the other way?

Congratulations on the purchase!

I don't want to skew the guy's view of his new car :P

Plus, a Mazda3 forum is hardly the most objective view of the auto industry right? :P

exactly! cannot see more fair car evaluations then on the mazda 3 forum. you can have any car you want as long as its a mazda 3.

Mazdaspeed 3s have consistently beaten the tar out of Mini vehicles in comparisons past. Look up Car and Driver and you'll agree.

A few things.. I hit 100k km on my mini.. didn't trust the long term reliability..
In short.. reliability, power and practicality. I think I could actually fit 4 people in my car now.

Also, would you ever see 0% financing on a brand new GTI, WRX or MCS? How could I pass this up?!?!

Here they are side-by-side last night. Picking it up today!

Sweet colour!
I love how people knock the MS3 for having a "smiley face"..
Sure beats the hell out of the Cooper's fu*kin' guppy fish-face look..

It seriously looks handicapped/retarded.. like its saying "aaauuggh,, duuuh"... (not in any way meant to offend anyone psychically)..

Fair enough. I personally don't believe in financing but you won't see me mocking those that do.

My '05 Mini had zero issues at 122K, and my best friend's '02 Cooper S has no issues at 186K. Obviously there's the chance that things could go wrong though, so I feel you there for sure.

Oh, and yes, it's probably a bit easier to put 4 people into the Speed3 :)

Best of luck on the new car though!

Why is that?

could you get 0.9% on a loan from your bank?

Better yet 0%?

@ D_Daniels-good move! A family friend bought a base model 2011 mini cooper and she JUST got rid of it for a 2012 3.

Did you have m/any issues with your mini?

Of course not, but I personally believe in saving up, then buying something outright. If I don't have the cash sitting in the bank, you won't see me spending it. At 0%, I'd consider it, but only if I could invest the rest elsewhere and make interest while I'm making payments.

Nope; that's the one exception to my personal rule. Didn't exactly have about $400K sitting around, but I got a low mortgage rate and put a significant chunk down.

Yeah a few. Constant fuel pump issues (warranty every time), issues with the sunroof seals, window registers, tire pressure sensor.. constant problems with all of those things.

Thanks for the warm wishes everyone!

I picked it up last night and it's a dream!

Got my mazda3 logo'd WeatherTech liners from FLIPDADY in the mail today, so I'll put them in after work!

My point is that there are people that have $400K lying around that could have, but you don't see them here talking about it.

To some people, the cost of a brand new speed3 is too much not to finance, and even if they had the cash lying around, they may not want to put it all towards a car, if it would deplete their savings.

If you're only here to talk about buying cars outright and expensive watches, I don't see the point. You have something to prove?

Very nice colour. Silver really shows off the curves on this car, and it looks good whether dirty or clean.

84 month financing? eeeeeeeek.
Sure hope you like it, cause you're gunna be stuck with it for a loooonnngggg time :p

The 0% financing is great, but I dunno, amortizing a car payment over 7yrs is just crazy to me. I've only had mine for ~1.5yrs and am already thinking about my next move. Maybe that's just me tho.

Elusivellama
10-28-2012, 07:48 PM
At 0% for 84 months, the length of the term is negligible as long as the total cost of the car is not excessive and is reasonably fair. You can add more to your monthly payment if you want to clear it off faster.

You dont understand 0% financing?

You get the 84 months to make your monthy payment as cheap as possible, but you can pay off as much as you want at any time.

You could pay it off the day after you got it with no penalty...smartest way to finance!

terapr0
10-29-2012, 11:09 PM
lol I understand financing, and the allure of a 0% rate....I also know that the vast, overwhelming majority of people who choose 84 month financing do so in order to reduce their monthly payments and perceived cost of ownership. Of course you can pay the balance off as quickly as you like, but I don't believe most who pursue long-term financing actually do. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that d_daniels will have this paid off in 18months

10-31-2012, 12:40 PM
0% financing is basically a bi-polar choice. You either get further discount off the car (0% isn't, the cost is just built in) or you can get the loan. Why you'd get the loan is a completely different question. There are people who cannot afford the car otherwise (which makes you wonder a bit about the choice) or people who can but rather keep the cash in the short term. If you can make more from investing (a big question mark) the money you'd otherwise have used to pay for the car or use that money to good use else where (house?) it's not a decision that I would fault. Especially as it's a pay off anytime loan.
