So I live in an apartment building and for the past 6 months I've kept my snow tires (stacked neatly in tire bags) stacked at the back of my underground parking space not hurting anyone. I was backing into my spot today and thought "hey there seems to be something missing here..." I get out of my car and sure enough my snow tires are gone with winter well on its way. So I went up to speak with the security guard and found the superintendent in the lobby. So I was clesrly pissed off and was shouting at the both of them asking where my tires were. The super claims a notice went out to have all our parking spots cleared out of "junk" or it will be removed for us. Neither I or my roommate received such notice and we did notice that other spaces still had tools and other spare things for example a litter box and some Tupperware in their spots and yet my tires are missing.....I'm pissed any advice?

sorry dude, i got the same notice in my appartment too that theyre clearing out junk. ask them where they took the stuff and if you can get them back. since they posted up notices, not sure if they are obliged to do anything about it. i guess u can be nice about it and if your lucky, theyll help you. not sure if they thrown them out or not though because i kno the gov charges for tire disposal. i would store your stuff in the underground lockers if you have one.

I've lived in 2 different condos and 1 apartment buildling previously, and all 3 places had the same rules. I just thought that it was a common rule among all condos/ apartment buildings. I know what you mean though, I've seen people try to keep tires, bikes, boxes, etc. at the back of their parking space, just to be notified to get rid of them. For me, alot of this was outlined in the condo rules I read over when I moved in.

Did you ask the Management if they threw it out?

Just as silverstarmazda mentioned above, I ended up doing the same thing, and rented a locker in the building just to store my tires and tools. Kinda sucked, but didn't have much of an option :(

You're not supposed to keep anything in your parking spot other than your vehicle

Still sucks

Are you sure someone other than Bldng. Mgmnt didn't simply steal them? (You mention that other's still have junk in their spots)

Check Kijiji/Craiglist to see if they suddenly show up.

Any other Mazda owners in the underground?

What the hell. That sucks. My appartment in burlington is such a joke, i don't even get a designated spot. I gotta lug that shit up 3 flights of stairs :bang

where did they put the notices? because for us they put it everywhere and its impossible to miss. they still allow bike down there though. what was the deadline for the removal? if they took your wheels before the deadline (nov 5th for us) theyre are outright stealing your property PERIOD. there is no excuse like "oh we have to start removing things early to reach the deadline". you can call the cops and charge for theft or report it to the head office of who runs the apartment.

half of my locker is filled with oem parts LOL so its getting crowded in there.

If tires are there and in bags, clearly they are not junk.........I would def make them return it, they can't just do that and if its in your space then clearly that is yours you pay for it winter tires are not cheap :)

i also live in a condo but check the condo bylaws the parking spot even if you own it is only to be used for parking auto or motorcyle. YOu cannot use it to store bicycles even. but they have relaxed it for the electric bicycles

thye do this not only to keep things looking clean. but because of a rodent problem. they love clutter and will build nests. they ill eventually start ripping out car wires and other materials and cause all sorts of hygene problems. i remember leaving my winter tires over night on my balcony and the next morning there was a pigeon in there...

Years ago when I had my chevrolet, a rat climbed up into a narrow corner of the engine compartment and stuck in there while I parked in the back of the restaurant . Didn`t notice it until ...well...when it basically cooked. Trust me, it was not funny when I had to pull it out by grabbing its tail!!

It could have been stolen by someone before the cleaning of the garage. Twice a year my condo power washes the underground garage and notices are posted up everywhere more than 2 weeks in advance. Seriously, leaving your tires and rims out there is an invitation to have them stolen. Its literally hundreds of dollars lying there and easily sold especially this time of year.

the only spot I've seen notices are on the door to the garage but for the past few months the notice was about some remote garage door opener you can buy for 30 bucks. My lease doesn't say anything about not being able to store things in the spots and they never mentioned it in the condo rules. Also this morning on my way to work I saw spots with, shopping bags, a car seat, tupperware and a litter box just laying there. So I'm going to have to go discuss why only my tires were taken, with any luck I can get them back and just store them at my parent house until I need them. Thanks for the advice everyone

Yeah if other items are still there it sounds like they were stolen. Are there cameras that security can check? And if they are sticking to their story that they were removed by staff, find out who removed them i.e. get actual confirmation by the person that did it. Also check with other residents to see if they noticed any signs about things being cleaned out by a certain date.

In my old building I kept my tires in my spot, but they were chained together, it was a small building with mostly middle-aged families or seniors, and the condo board president agreed with me that exceptions to their rules should probably be made for tire storage, so I was pretty confident leaving them there. Plus the maintenance guy (note: singular) would definitely have warned me personally before removing them. My current building is nothing like that, so everything goes in the locker.

.... Is probably how a certain conversation went.

This is a shitty story man. They are doing this to the owners in our building now.

I do not know your financial situation but I pay $79.00 to Westowne Mazda to store mine for the season. I know its 80 bucks but its also piece of mind.

yeah my townhouse underground parking has the same rules and i'm pretty sure its the same everywhere. I have store my tires in the locker we have. Locking them up would be a great idea if you are allowed to store stuff

+1

I don't get this rant, you leave something valuable unattended, not locked up. Now it's missing and you are upset?

my old landlord threw out my car cover without notice one day, and then cut the locks off my bikes (chained up in the garage) and stole them. I went to the police and they told me I would have to go to small claims court which would take 2 yrs and it wouldn't be worth it. Instead, since QC'ed rental board is so useless (they literally make it impossible for the renters and landlords alike to resolve problems), I moved out without paying him my last months rent (1100$) and there wasn't a damn thing he could do about it since he didn't know my new address. The guy was a real prick though, he stole tons of money from the older tenants, and would shut our hydro off for days at a time (since it was hydro included, he was saving money this way) so I don't feel sorry for him in the least. May he burn in hell.

Anyhow, sorry to hear bout your tires... bottom line is you cant trust any of your stuff anywhere unless its locked up.... and even then its not 100% safe. Well, that, and 85% of landlords are total d-bags.
