View Full Version : Audio heaven any good to install remote starter ?
Is Audio heaven any good to install a remote starter? Jeff said he will do it himself. I know most members go to Lockdown Security but I was taken back by their demand for a deposit before booking an installation appointment.

Audio Heaven is a very good shop, and have great reviews.
With regards to Lockdown and the request for a deposit, it is simply a way to ensure you arrive for your appointment. If they have one of their installers at the shop ready and waiting to complete your job, and then you do not show up, the shop loses money, as they pay the installer regardless.
I can understand the policy completely.
Ultimately it is your choice, and go to a shop that you are comfortable with the reviews, prices, requirements, and policies.

Business are sick of loosing money now a days. Myself included.
My business has been around since 1988. And between then and 2010 claimed 2 loss. In the last 2 years we have claimed 6. ( people going out of business or just plain not paying. )
We have adopted the deposit practice as I'm sure a lot of smaller companies will. Don't take offense to it. We all just have to cover ourselves. Sometimes it means inconvenience to the customer but it does insure that these small business will be around when we need something else done. Or warranty work.
I've heard positive things about both shops. I wouldn't let asking for a deposit sour your experience, but as ami said. Your best off going where you feel comfortable.

Lockdown does absolutely awesome work deposit or not I would recommend them.
Audio Heaven also has good reviews but I have no personal experience with them so I can't comment on their work quality, but judging by the reviews I'd say either shop will do a good job.
Does Lockdown not stock the remote starter? If they have to order it in then yes i agree with the deposit but if it's in stock and they still want a deposit i would not buy from them.

Go for it! Good people to deal with.

They do stock them. The deposit is to ensure that the customer show up for the appointment. I felt uneasy giving credit card details and the concept of deposit. I do not know any other shop or a service provider that require a deposit before an appointment. Only people I know that charge for cancelled appointments are doctors and dentists and even they give appointments without deposits. I cannot imagine car dealers and shops requesting deposits for appointments as a practice. I guess Lockdown has either lot of business or cancellations or both and it makes business sense to them.

Both are legit and good so you are safe with either one.

I never heard anything bad about niether places but i personally don't like the idea of paying the deposit for something that is in stock.
If it was me i wouldn't buy from a place that wants me to pay deposit for something that is in stock.

Audio Haven charged me $75 to uninstall a remote starter... 15 minutes... a couple years later i requested a quote for a sirius radio install...they wanted $150 ....this is a expensive place to to business with in mt experience.

Never really had any work done by audio heaven but have not heard any bad news from them.
As for your alternative choice I did not get charged a deposit when I went to lockdown. But I do understand that with the weather getting cooler now more and more people will want starters done. Alot of people will shop around for the best price and often times when they do find a better price they go else where. In alot of cases they do not inform the other shp they are not comming anymore. Now this shop is waiting on you where they could have had another car to fill your place. Also if they are holding a system for you and and you decide to bail out on instal then that is a system they could have had for someone else.

If you're in the Scarborough Town Center area another shop really worth checking out is Auto Links. John helped me with starters on both my cars and tints as well. Great shop and the same can be said about their customer service. just my 0.02 :)

Not the cheapest place to get the job done, but they will do a good job garantee.
AH is very known, nothing to worry about.

if anyone is looking for a good audio guy, decks, car alarms, subs etc.. go to chris at noise boys audio in aurora... probably the best I've ever been too. brought all my cars to him. great guy and great prices.
I haven't dealt with Lockdown, but I've heard good things about them. I have had at least 5 remote starters and tint jobs done at Audio Heaven. Jeff is a great guy and will take care of you.
AH is the place that I trust with all of my cars.
Thanks,
Rob.
I got the remote starter installed at Audio Heaven. The starter works well. Jeff took time to explain how to use it . Seems like a very nice guy.

Only thing I didn't like about the installation was that "anti grinding kill start relay" was not installed. Jeff said he does not do this for his jobs because it could lead to starting problems. I have already started to grind the starter. I cannot always remember to turn the key to the second position - sometimes I start the car as before and grind the starter. Do you guys have the anti grinder install with your remote starter?

Mine has that... At least I think it does...

I can certainly install the starter kill but we do not recommend it as it could lead to problems if the relay or the unit even decides to go defective. It is something that we do not recommend and most shops do not hook it up.
If you would like it done then no problem but it is something to think about.
We always look out for our customers and also look for what is in there best interest.
Thanks for your time.
What I meant was that I wish I have an anti-grinding relay not that I didn't like Audio Heaven's installation. If it is not recommended, I guess I do without it but every time I grind the starter my heart grinds too. Sorry, probably I should have written the post better.
Hey folks,
When I started to use remote starters I'd done that as well. I found that I learned not to go to "start" pretty quickly though, and with the potential issues in starting with the starter kill relay I prefer to go this way.
Thanks,
Rob.

Had the new Compustar Slice remote starter installed on my 3 by Autolinks the other day, works great. I'm haven't noticed any starter grind that you guys have been talking about. I also had a Viper 5901 alarm/remote starter installed on my Genesis earlier in the year, by Audio Heaven, so I can definitely recommend both shops.
