Got a 110$ fine the other day because yellow headlights are apparently illegal in the province of ontario. Just interested if someone could pull up information on a government site that states this. I've tried searching it on tm3 because I could've sworn I saw a post on this topic, but to no avail. I'm going to fight the ticket regardless and try to lower the fine.

Just to clarify: I had yellow HID's and yellow wrap on the headlights when I was pulled over

yeah the film is what caught his attention. just show the prosecutor a picture of the film removed from your car. ticket should be dropped.

Any coating is illegal

But yellow should be ok as it is a shade of amber.

Does that actually work? I mean the ticket is suppose to be a punishment for doing something. You can take the film off take a photo and than put it back on. The point is to give a slap on the wrist and not to do it again.

One question the ticket looks like a HTA, that is a minor conviction but looks like it could be on your record and the insurance will know when you renew. Is that the case?

it's not a moving violation which is why it is a minor conviction. If you show them a picture of it removed they will or should remove the charge..unless you are dumb enough to put it back on and run getting harassed more.

think of it as a tinted plate cover ticket..show pics of the plate more visible and you should be let off the hook

Yeah it clearly states it as HTA on the ticket but he told me I won't lose points for it, I don't think it should be a problem

you got a year to worry about it, with getting the court date (6-8 months) and actually waiting to show up (3-5 months). and the ticket might be dropped in the middle of everything. i have a letter of mine being dropped. if i can find it and if its legal. i might post a pic if your interested.

Points are meaningless unless you are bad enough to get tons of them. Goes in 2 years and insurance don't look it up. It's the minor and serious convictions that matters. Most insurance will, depending on the age and class of driver, accept 1 or 2 minor without raising your premium.

it all depends on the tickets that you get...

As others have mentioned, yes this is a valid ticket. I've seen many automotive enthusiasts drive with yellow overlay on their headlights or/and with yellow bulbs in their headlights. I've been pulled over once for my lights, but just got a warning. Bottom line, you can't expect to do mods and not garner attention.

I say dispute the ticket with the JOP.

So my reply is a bit late, but I had the same ticket for having 1 headlight out. The cop told me to take my car to the collision reporting center within 48 hours to prove I fixed the problem, and they threw out the ticket on the spot.

To prove that its really up to the cop, I was at the LCBO around the corner from my place yesterday after work and there is a regional courthouse in the same area with tons of cops hanging around. When I came out to my car there were a couple of cops looking at my car and asked if I painted my headlight interior housing since it was darker than stock. When I told them I have it vinyl covered (thank you Seche Media), they complimented on how good it looked and walked back to their cruisers.

it is all up to the cop. technically any modification to headlights (wich includes aftermarket HID's) is illegal and you could get a ticket. same as the license plate cover, all up to the cop. depends if theyre in a good mood or not or if youre an ass to them really.

Yup. Was suited up so I didn't look like a threat. Tinted headlights, fogs and plate cover.......nothing from either cop
