Hi all,

I have a 2012 mazda 3 sedan gx bought in Aug which has about 4,800kms on it. I know gas mileage topics have been discussed in this forum so many times and I have browsed through them, but the details/stuffs that I find doesn't seem to fit my question. I drive 100 % city driving and get about 400 to 405 kilometers per tank. Is this the average that I should get for 100% city driving?Because most of the posts about mileage have either 70/30hwy/city, some have 50/50 some have 60/40 others 80/20 etc, but i couldn't find any about 100% city and the kilometers that they get...Again, sorry for the repeat topic, and regards to all!

Holy crap, 400 pure city? That for me would be astounding. I'm lucky if I get 500 70% hwy.

My wife has a 2011 GX and drives almost exclusively on city streets, Bloor/Kipling. For the most part the mileage you're seeing is within the ballpark of the what my wife is seeing.

I generally average 450-500km pure city but then I'm not usually in stop-and-go traffic when commuting so I'm sure that helps!
100% highway, aveage about 700km if I don't go faster than 110kph.

I have a 2008 2.3 litre GT. Mon-Fri I go from Weston and Finch to Islington and Queensway, to and from. I used to average less than 350km/tank. But then i recently read that I shouldn't coast in neutral. Now that I've been down shifting, I've been getting at least 40 more kms/tank. Sometimes over 400.

I am only on my 4th tank of gas, but because I also drive 100% city in my '07 Sport GT (2.3L) I thought I'd comment. First tank I Zoom Zoomed got 420km, second tank I hypermiled got 460km, and the 3rd tank I drove normally and got 440km. According to GasCubby a good free app i use on my smartphone, thats a average of 10.69 L per 100km. The cars trip computer indicates I average 9.6 L but its not reality. I have yet to run the car down below the trip computers remaining milage calculation and I am wondering what the real range is. When I run down to 10 remaining it only takes 47 litres of gas and its a 55 litre tank so I assume you can go another 75 kilometers or so. Anyone go that far past empty?

i have '13 mazda3 gx. i also do 90% city driving and i get about the same with you 400kms~420kms per tank.
Mazda3 sedans holds 55L gas and when i fill up gas with no bar left, i put in about 44~46L of gas. :)

theres a tsb, something about it causes wear to tranns components or something. besides when the engine is in gear and coasting down hill. cant remeber where i read it or how it does it but there is no fuel going to the motor when its like engine braking. so its not like its better to put it to neutral. or something to that effect.

What Booter was trying to say is that the fuel injectors basically shut off when coasting in gear. When you coast in Neutral, fuel is needed to idle the motor. When coasting in gear the car's momentum keeps the motor moving.
