anyone know of any good place to take pictures. I am planning to take some before it snows. I prefer it be close to bradford newmarket area but dont mind toronto area since i am there alot.
From what I heard from my brother, the new parking garage in yorkdale is empty after 9 pm...but I am not sure if theyd let me in or will i have to go in when the mall is open and wait for all the cars to leave....
any other spots that are fine regardless of time and where I can take pictures without getting fined for tresspassing :P ???

you're not going to get fined for trespassing anywhere that isnt a government building or other "sensitive area". If security comes just tell them what you're doing and if they dont like it, leave.
Other than that, use your imagination....just drive around until you see someplace interesting. Try and go on a sunday if you're really nervous...usually a lot less traffic on the weekends, especially at commercial spots

Top level of the Yorkdale mall stacked parking lot that edges onto Allen Road. the lighting is bright and there's skyline looking south.Usually there's lots of space up there on weekdays for pictures. Back in Protege Club days, we did group car shots up there.
Also, anywhere where there was recently a soccer game or baseball game where the field has the lights on... makes for excellent lighting, and usually yields greenspace.

you could probably get in a good 10 minute photo shoot before having to move your car forward 4 feet if you go right at 5:00p.m.

I see but my brother left his car parked in the newly built parking lot( the one with the little lights that tell you if the spot is occupied or not) one day and he came back to it at around 11 pm or so and his car was the only one in the lot...made for a very nice picture... I want to do similar but id probably have to go right before closing and wait for all the shoppers to leave the lot. As for soccer fields and all, I dont think id be allowed there, my school parking lot had some decent lighting for a recent photshoot but I want something that is well lit but at night...

Explain good spot?
Grass
Trees
Bridge
Long road
Graffiti
Underground parking garage
Public parking
I used the top of the Yorkdale Mall parking before, it was alright. If you're looking at nature and stuff, you can go to King city and have someone do a rolling shot (I did one two weeks ago for my brother's motorcycle).
Find a spot where there's not too much distracting backgrounds that the viewer's eyes can get distracted on. Also some post processing should be done to make the car stand out and add some mooooood.

After MASIV Monday I'm in as I live near the mall.
Tuesdays isn't a good day due to the movie deal Cineplex has done for most theaters.
Usually a lot of people park up there due to the cold weather now.
** I'll help whoever has a camera there tweak settings and possibly bring a speedlite.
I don't think I want my picture taken, steelies are on :(

Anyone else down for after Masiv Monday? Since it is a weekday I would suggest we leave Masiv Monday ( if it is not done by then) by around 9 so we could do the photoshoot since I know some of you probably have to go to work the next day, but I am fine with staying late since I am on break. Also another reason to leave early is because I am not sure how long the New Parkade stays open and comes out with some very nice shots
like so : ( this was my brothers car after 9 pm since he parks at the lot regularly)

I have to agree with Thrizzl3 regarding the weather and time of day.
There is a chance of snow and I don't have any protective gear for my Nikon D3100. I don't want to risk it being extremely snowy or having high humidity so it can have a narrow (but possible chance) of entering the internals of my camera. Not to mention, while being outside in the snow is bearable for us Canadians, we don't know the exact temperatures. If it's too cold then it will get very boring and uncomfortable quickly. But you know what Alphaville says, "hope for the best but expect the worst". In an addition to that, isn't that area of high crime rate last time I checked? I always see police cars parked somewhere arresting somebody in that area if I'm not mistaken. I could be mistaken, but I'm not sure.

You know weather channels aren't always right? They can see a storm coming with a "doppler" but Mother Nature can unexpectedly change course of said storm in a matter of hours. We can predict weather, but not say for sure how it's going to be.

anyways back on thread please...
Thread is about a good place to shoot photos, and I'm giving my input on one of the proposed locations. I am all for it, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.
Personally I'd prefer a large open field (outskirts of Toronto, in a rural area) on a sunny day. Park all our M3's on the field in a circle or whatever, and the photos can commence. I don't know if there are big fields that exist like that though, that are not owned by private agriculturalists. Plus, even if they were public, the Toronto po-po would probably be all over our asses.

nice idea, but for now I will try yorkdale if anyone else is willing to tag along... otherwise Ill reschedule yorkdale for another day....
hmmm...as much as I wanted to, not sure if I would be able to make it after Masiv. I live like 20 mins from Masiv so going to Yorkdale for only a couple hours max would be a bit of a waste. Car wash: $10 (most locations) :P
Also you don't have to stick around for the whole photoshoot....we could just take some pics with you in it first and then send you on your way....and hence why I said we should leave around 9 pm (if no one minds it)
To all who are coming please let me know via the form or by talking to me at Masiv Monday (skinny brown guy with glasses ...might even wear my heart for hearth shirt)
I'll more than likely be down for this. Too tempting to pass up lol. Hopefully I can get myself to give the car a quick wipe down after it possibly rains/snows on Sunday.

your fears are entirely without merit....unless you fully submerge your camera underwater it will be just fine. I say this from years of experience, absolutely thrashing all of my cameras outside in the pouring rain, through driving blizzards, thick mud, sand and everything from -30 to +40° temps. Of course your D3200 isnt weather-sealed to the same extent as my D3x or D700, but it's probably better sealed than my D70 or D60 were, and they held up just fine. If it were a Canon I'd tell you to worry, but Nikon knows how to make hella durable bodies ;) Besides, the body is the most rapidly depreciating part of your kit - it's slowly losing value every second you own it and will be worth next to nothing in a few years, whether it's beaten up or never used. Better get your values worth

I treat my cameras I've owned through the worst weathers and nothing is wrong with it.
Don't worry about your equipment, worry about your shots! Only thing I would worry about my gear is when people are walking when I do long shutter.
Humidity shouldn't be your enemy its not even harmful. I've shot cold weather and went to a packed club with it right after I just wait 10 minutes and just snapping.
If I could do that with a rebel xt, you could definitely do that with your nikon.

Deffinately was interesting circling the parking garages numerous times :P ( sucks that the new underground parking just closed as soon as we got back together...also I do remember saying "lets just go to the top level" ) but the biggest mistake is that we had no communication except in person. Yorkdale is not a good place to get lost as I learned last night. I even checked this thread last night in the parking lot but totally forgot about pm's :F
Next time , everyone either have each others numbers or FRS Radios :P
also when do you guys want to give it another shot (assuming you guys are still up for it) We can try doing it sometime in the next couple of weeks but after December, I wont be available (busy with college) until April ( Plus the weather is going to get colder soon) .

the new underground parking lot at yorkdale is pretty damn nice. was helping my foreman work on some of the parking sensors today which werent working. bottom level is pretty much empty and would be a good place to take a photoshoot. very clean as well.

heh, it is, We (actually it was just me) went there last night but I lost the entire pack, so I went back outside and found them and when we went back the gate wont open :F
Also what time were you there when the bottom level was "almost empty" ( could help us as then we can do a shoot without having to worry about waiting for people to leave)
