Hey all. I just graduated university with a job lined up for January so bought a 2008 Mazda 3 sport GT hatchback. Especially loving the heated seats in this cold weather. Can't wait for spring to come so I can start working on it.
Only 60 clicks on it and most of the maintenance records kept. However, he can't quite remember the last oil change, so I'm just gonna change it tomorrow. He's been using synthetic. Do you guys recommend sticking with that, or just use conventional 5w-20?
Thanks :)

Welcome to TM3 and congrats on the purchase as well as your graduation. Impressive you to a job right out of school in your field I'm assuming, I've been waiting 3 years to get hired in my field so to speak. As for mods youll find no shortage of members with mods that you can get ideas from. Post pics when you can

synthetic oil is like insurance for your engine. you might not need it, but its nice to have. :D whats an extra few bucks to a longer lasting, better working engine/
welcome and congrats.

Thanks for the heads up. I got auto. Never learned to drive stick as embarassing as that is. Always had automatics in the family.

I studied correctional services. Essentially becomes a corrections officer (prison guard). Went to college did 2 placements at Toronto Jail and Toronto East Detention Centre. Upon graduation passed the mental and physical test only for them to go on a hiring freeze to review the hiring criteria. Been waiting since 2010

congrats and welcome to TM3.
always like seeing new grads buy a slightly used car and resisting the urge to buy new off the lot and have crazy car payments.
I know a lot of people that got into trouble quickly having to pay off school loans and a new car lol

Prefer not to say. No idea, I'm all booked up on engagements for the year but no idea where yet until I get into the office and check my scheduling.

Not sure what the CKE is??? I'll be doing CASB modules, and writing the UFE to get my CA designation 2 years from now.

It's a Hughes car wash, but I'm from Edmonton not the GTA.

Thanks. Doing accounting, I know enough to stay away from that kind of trouble lol. Shit interest rates, pre-payment lockouts, compounding frequency. And you called it, yup on the students loans, and I'd rather get an older car and start saving for a condo/house. Plus the amortization on brand new cars angers me haha.

Ohhh I see. Then it might be different.
By the time you finish your program, you'll be part of CPA Canada due to unification process. Lol

The CKE is one of the three test for the CA designation. First the CKE than Summer school than UFE. I'm writing the CKE this January. I never heard of CASB it's probably the same thing as the CKE and summer school though.

I keep getting email updates and hearing about it. Alberta seems really opposed to unifying. Most of the CA's here tend to have a superiority complex over CMA and CGA's.

Different route, same result I guess. In Alberta we have 2 options.
Option 1: Study and work at the same time, doing 6 modules of Charted Accountant School of Business (CASB) and tests over approximately 2 years. Then write the UFE.
Option 2: Enroll in the MPACC program (Masters degree is accounting) by going to Saskatchewan during the 4 summer months for 2 summers. Then write UFE. Benefit is you don't have to work and study at the same time and hate life haha. This sounds like the CKE/summer school you guys do out east.

What firm are you with?
I think CKE is only an Ontario thing.
lol
also if you are registered with the ICAO by 2015 you get a CA CPA : ) lol I'm writing my UFE in 2013 myself
Congrats !
