Hey all,

I plan on getting the cylinder head ported and polished in the near future. In order for this to happen, i either need to remove the one already in the car or go to the wreckers and get a used one for less downtime. a third option is buying the cosworth made one. still deciding on this.

I am still learning as I go, so im wondering what parts I need after the removal of the cylinder head. Do i need to get new valves, springs, head studs and gasket? Been reading up a bit and it says that many parts of the engine are torqued for a one time use. If anyone could make a general list of parts needed in order for the engine to be put safely back together, it would be much appreciated.

already found a few reliable places for porting/polishing thx to Celestspeed, Nextmod, and my dad.

anyways, thx for reading

cheers,
Justin

You will just need new crank washers a crank bolt and a head gasket. You can get upgraded head studs if you want but I don't think you "need" them

I would suggest going to a wrecker. I think the heads on all 2.0, 2.3 and 2.5 motors may be the same.

EDIT: Just looked it up the Cosworth head will cost you about $4000, about double what it would cost youth get a use one done. You should also get cams to take advantage of the Cosworth head ($700), the Cosworth head will also need new buckets for the springs and those can be anywhere from $25-$30 each depending on the size (~$500) on top of that you need someone to check and install the buckets. You can do it yourself but it is a pain in the ass. So to do a Cosworth head properly you are looking at ~$5250 vs less than half of that if you just port and polish a used head. I don't know about you but may be 2 weeks or a rental car is around $500 and you just offset the cost of the used head and can still get around.

believe me, ive thought about it more than once. but i plan on having this car forever, and it will be staying n/a. eventually turn it into a designated track car. until then, baby steps. :D

@kevin, cant wait till the next track session. so much fun last time.

@ greyseason, lolz.

@ Celestspeed, thx for the info. will be looking into it over the next few weeks. hopefully there will be time for us to meet up so i can get a proper checklist of whats needed so i dont get the wrong parts etc.

I am interested to see how efficient/inefficient the present cylinder head is. How much more hp do you think this engine can produce if you do this?
