View Full Version : Intake for my 2.0 Mazda 3 2012

Hello, my first post. I went to a performance shop in my city (Focus Performance) to buy an "Injen" short ram intake for my 2012 mazda 3 2.0 Gx.
The guy said there are no intakes for my 2.0 model, he said my best bet would be to buy a universal one. I emailed "autoanything" and they said the injen intake for the 2.5 mazda 3 should fit my model.
Can anyone confirm this or give some advice. I would really like to put a sick intake in my engine.
I know I can't do much with my model, but I love my car, brand new too, 10,000k.

So is there a big power peformance between the two? Which one is better. I want whatever intake provides the most HP :)

I have the corksport sri for my car, the only thing i noticed was it had smoother acceleration threw the higher rpms, not too much lagg, and less gas mileage

well thats good, better buy the best the first time and be done. my gfs mazdaspeed one is a 2" and my AEM is a 2.5". i do find mine has a more power but it could because i like my car more..:P
i do find still think the "cold air" is better then the "Short Ram" still think its a waste to spend money on the shorter intake to pick up hotter eng temp air vs colder temp air from below / near the fog light area. but that can be bickered over till death about which is better and temps and power and so on. but i just think they function better and look nice. bit more of a pain to get to the filter but so what. you do it once a year if you have to clean it. no big deal. both of my intakes are 2 parts. so im not sure about injen, i think its 1 piece but im sure it could fit one way or the other.
also for the 2.5L intake on my car i did make a custom L bracket as the bracket from the intake didnt reach to mount to the frame so i had to fab something up.

those are just from the 2010s some 2.5L or 2.0L, both will and should fit, and also the 2.3L and 2.0L intakes from the first gens will fit you would just need to change the intake fitting hose.

Attention:
I've requested and submitted a product idea to CORKSPORT for development of a CAI for the 2.0 L Skyactiv engine. I'm EXTREMELY INTERESTED and not as enthusiastic for the SRI as it's the only option right now. I hope through this forum, if we work together and request a CAI, they hopefully will develop one.
Please click on the link send the CAI product idea: http://www.corksport.com/product-ideas.html
What do you guys think?

how heavy are the gas mileage changes on all these available intakes?
(I'm aiming to grab a SRI with thebetter mileage over others, unless the differences are too small to matter)

i noticed on both cars the fuel economy got better with the CAI.. but once you like the sound of the intake that doesnt matter. however you wont find an sri that give you "better" as they are rated for more power which is the point of them.

kind of scary that a performance shop would tell you theres nothing available for the regular 2.0l, especially since nothing really has changed as far as the engine goes. But, i would get an intake that is meant for the 2.0l just because the diameter of the intake piping is supposedly different. Heard that some can cause CEL's if you put on the 2.5l specific one.
Also, dont take those dyno graphs to heart. Any company will exaggerate their gains just to sell products. that being said, I got a corksport on mine atm. :D

the biggest difference between the 04-09 and 2010 + is this. the pipe between the two hose clamps on the 2010+ goes into the pipe. where the 04-09 has a connection that comes off the intake and connects to tube with a connector on it
like this one
http://www.google.ca/imgres?q=2009+mazda+3+intakes&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&tbo=d&biw=1680&bih=881&tbm=isch&tbnid=CEJue59PqhlSbM:&imgrefurl=http://www.tougetuning.com/store/aem-cold-air-intake-20042009-mazda3-20l-and-23l-p-489.html&docid=jvLiAsPHc1DdZM&imgurl=http://www.tougetuning.com/store/images/products/mazda/mazda3-20042009/engine/21-488Cl.jpg&w=575&h=189&ei=PfHoULfaCKSI0QHu8IHgAg&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=381&sig=109566464130900652730&page=2&tbnh=88&tbnw=268&start=40&ndsp=47&ved=1t:429,r:73,s:0,i:313&tx=251&ty=78
both will fit but you need to just change the hose on the 04-09. canadian tire sells 1" rad coolant hose is what i think i used and it will fit on the valve cover. just use hose clamps to keep it in place.
other then that 04-09 intakes are 2" and 2010+ are 2.5". well at least my cold air is for a 2.5L engine. not sure what the SRI measure at for the 2.0L

Anybody know if the MPS MAF housing is different from the 2.0 L SKYACTIV in terms of size? Got a silly idea about trying the CORKSPORT Stage III Power Series Cold Air Intake for the Mazdaspeed 3 with the 2.0 L MAF housing and then clamp the silicone connector to pipe, etc. I know it's silly and probably won't work, but who knows.

Hey buddy I am thinking of ordering a corksport, I figured I would stick with something that is fitted for my engine size. Question, is there a possibility that the check engine light may come on? Even tho I would buy a correct sized intake for my car. If so, what do I do?
Question is opened to anyone else too, thanks :)

I wish I bought the Mazda speed! The intakes on the speed sound way nicer, it brings out that "tssss" noise from the turbo :)

I checked out the SRI for the 2.0, is there a difference in quality/performance compared to corksport? Which one is better overall. I have never heard of it tech racing.

well yea the intake and bov will do that nicely. but of course the intake may cause an engine light. i havent had one but you usually only hear it happen with the super cheap intakes.

They are a very well known brand. From what I know about them very superior quality compared some of the other brands. But between aem, corksport, Cobb are in the same league I think.
