View Full Version : Blown/Leaking Shock?
Hi Everyone,
I've been hearing a clunking from my rear corner on the driver side. I'm taking it into a shop on Saturday but thought I would get some opinions-I'm probably going to try and get a set of rear shocks before I see my mechanic. Does it look like this could be causing my clunking/popping noise in the back?

I find it weird that the rear shocks could have gone bad but my front end struts are fine. I'm lowered on prokits with about 125k (100k on prokits) with OEM shocks.

Question...when does it clunk? Over bumps? Just driving? In and out of driveways, etc?
Do you have an aftermarket rear sway bar?
Over bumps and pulling into driveways..and no aftermarket RSB yet..hoping to do that this weekend though lol

Well if you did I would say it could be the rear sway. Though stock "could" do it too.
Have you tried pushing up and down on those corners and see what kind of response you get?
Yup I've tried pushing down on the bad corner and it didn't make any strange noises and i didn't notice any excessive bouncing etc.

Well it definitely could be a blown shock. I would start by having it checked out. At least they aren't too much $$$ to change.

I had a clunk and it was the trailing arm bushing. The picture "seems" normal, but it's hard to tell until you pull the mount off to see if it is worn. There could be a bunch of things that is causing the clunk, and there is no way to tell from the picture.

Mine was clunking on the Passenger side for about a month. Changed my shocks last night its gone now. $150 after tax for the pair from Canadian Tire

I'm lowered on prokits so I may go the Koni/KYB route. Anyone have any experience with upgraded shocks (koni yellow/orange) in the rear and OEM up front? I intend on upgrading the front struts in the summer

Self dampening??????
Are you asking if they are adjustable? They are not adjustable.
Update:
So I replaced the rear shocks with Koni Orange shocks and the stock shock on the driver side was covered in oil/dirt..no more clunking! Luckily a cheaper fix than a trailer arm bushing. I also put on a Racing Beat sway bar and wow! I am in love with my car again. Thanks for the help guys
