I having been driving my own 2012 gx and my gf's 2010 gs, both sedan

one thing i notice is that when I do braking on my gx, there is the intial "empty" feel, then i have to push further down in order to feel the bite.
Versus on the gs, the initial braking already reached a biting point.

wondering why is it like that, my gx's milage is only 8000 km, and i am not a heavy braker
the gs's milage is 43000 km

Time to bleed the brakes?

Are both brakes properly bedded?

brakes need to be bled so early in this milage?
haven't done anything to the brakes, just got the car 5 months ago, everything OEM

after thinking about it for abit, i don't think it's so much "delayed" as there's not really a time factor in this, it's more of a "sensitivity" issue, meaning that I have to step down further to trigger the bite.

I get this also, some days it feels right there, then other days I feel that I have to really push. It happened today actually.

it's weird, because it could be the same day, same temp, but my gf's car brakes performs much better than mine

Could be expansion if the factory lines are rubber. Maybe upgrade to stainless lines?

Hey guys if its happening on a really cold day, the fluid is thicker and near frozen. just pump it up with your foot several times until it loosens up a bit.

If car is 5 months brand new, might be needing some bleeding, also check the fluid level first. Check for any leak on the garage floor in the morning.

I can say I personally get that "empty" feeling from time to time.

It can be somewhat disconcerting when you go to brake and for a split second it feels like you have no brakes at all.

It never lasts past that initial half a second, and very infrequently.

Perhaps come the spring I'll get new fluid and my lines bled.

Thanks for the replies. I've had it a few times and was wondering what it was...also, regarding the breaks, do you feel the 24,000km maintenance is necessary (lubricating calliper pins etc)

any and all of those maintenance's are necessary if you want to keep your warranty lol.

cold brakes may have an effect on this. cold brake pads have different "feel" as temperatures change. which is probably why were not getting it all the time. brakes cool/warm depending on your driving style and traffic. sometimes its warmer, sometimes its cooler. this temperature difference is probably causing the empty feeling. brake pad composites also react differently to temperature changes as well. metallic and ceramic pads act differently in different temperatures.

It is very likely you have air in the lines, even with a new car this is common.

Are you sure it's not just because the 2010s are better? :p

i'm getting the opposite actually lol. when I leave from work I find that my brakes have much more bite than normal and they are squeeky. This happens for the first couple of brakes and then it gets back to normal. this is after I leave the car outside in cold weather for 8 hours. these are aftermarket brakes/pads tho.

might be the thin layer of rust that builds up on the rotors. i know that causes it to bite pretty good. the cold might also be making the pads "harder"
