as some of you know we recently put in a hks cbe on our car. we love the rumble of it but find the interior drone of it not to our liking. short little trips around Toronto are no problem, it just the long trips and driving the hwy very the noise can get to us.

what would be the best option for toning it down, were not looking to go as quite as the stock exhaust. would trying to sound proof the interior actually help or would it be best to get a bigger resonator?

if we were to get a different resonator how much difference would it make, is there anyone who has a hks and done anything to quite down the drone

How recently did you install the hks? I don't know about the hks system but with my Vibrant it took awhile and the noise and droning died down and quite abit to where on the highway it's now just a nice rumble...Maybe give it a little more time and see what happens?

Droning doesn't really go away. I felt the same way with my Corksport CBE back then and had to switch to Mazdaspeed. I would recommend getting a resonator to tone it down.

I added a vibrant ultraquiet resonator onto my cbe. My trunk is also insulated with fatmat from ebay (dynamat imitation) for my sound system, but it also quieted down the drone significantly.

Car is quiet at low rpm, but over 4k rpm... the beast is unleashed.

i hear the drone around the 2000 rpm mark until the car shift to 5th gear and then its gone. i think any aftermarket cbe will do that. a downpipe will only make it louder I assume

We? I don't keep track of who does what lol.
But anyways, another resonator will help a lot, but you want the south do still I take it.
You could try and rocker guard the heat shield, but that might run into issues with heat.

yeah, but me too sometimes, mainly when I'm tired

is there anyone in the east end that has some kind of aftermarket CBE that I can come see and would take me for a drive around the block to compare the interior noise to see if I'm just crazy or if it is actually loud in our car

I can't remember exactly how long, but it was in say several weeks, maybe a month that I noticed it calming down. But as I said I can't speak for the HKS. I do live in the east end if you wanted to hear mine but it would be like comparing apples to oranges, since I have a Vibrant system.

I've got the vibrant ultra-quiet resonator on my Borla CBE, and from vague comparisons to other Borla's I've heard, it does seem to tune it down a bit. So that could definitely be an option for you.

thanks, I'll check out the video when i get on a computer that actually has proper speakers.

maybe i'll just sell this stupid thing and get something that's much quieter to begin with lol
