View Full Version : HID + Angel Eyes + Headlight Swap = HELP PREESE

To summarize...
CURRENT SETUP
2004 headlight assembly
Aftermarket Projector Housing
HIDs for DRL and Night Time Lights
Regular fogs

NEW EQUIPMENT
2007-2009 Headlight assembly (comes with projector I think)
Angel Eyes (one old ballast and one new) DRLs AND(?) Regular Night Lights with HIDs
Ice Blue LED fogs

So now my question is should I put the 2007-2009 headlight assembly in and just switch the hid bulbs and everything will plug and play?
Also I have almost no idea how to instal angel eyes (I know their are threads) but I was curious if people run them JUST as DRLs or as DRLs and accompaniments with HID's? Regardless I want my current HID's with the new angel eyes and I believe the new fogs are completely separate. I'm just wondering if this is goangeling to be a big issue or if it is a relatively simple switcharoo. I haven't taken my headlights out before so I'm not sure. Thanks in advance.

so your stock headlights are modified with upgraded projectors? as in tsx projectors or do you mean clear lenses?
plug and play will depend on my first question
As for angel eyes, if you don't know what you are doing but are brave enough to attempt with following guides by all means do attempt. If not feel free to message me
you can run the angel eyes any way you like. Why would you want to run a used and a new ballast for the angel eyes? Unless you picked up a complete used set
basically what I am saying is I am somewhat puzzled by what it is you are actually trying to achieve

Technically we (except for speed's) only have halogen projectors, not meant for HID's.

He's referring to halogen vs projector (halogen or not).

This is what I did:
Bought a set of 2007 halogen headlights, replaced then lenses from TRS. Installed Angel Eyes and connected them to a seperate switch. Fogs are modded via Indy-fog mod. This gives me the option of running the fogs and AE as DRLs, or either each one by themselves.

This is exactly what I want. Any advice you can give ? This is seriously perfect. Although I don't think that I would need to ever run just my fog lights. EDIT: After double checking the indy fog threads, I'd probably actually do the fuse box indy mod to make the fog lights be on all the time so that them and the AE could be DRL's.

About the ballast I meant that one of the ones was broken so I bought a new one off ebay. Does it matter that I now have a new one (ebay) and an old one as long as they both work? (No difference in brightness?)

And the projectors I'm fairly sure I mean tsx projectors. I didn't do it I bought the car that way but I they look sort of like the projectors from the later model headlights but a little bigger. Also I know that they have been upgraded in SOME way and that I do run HIDs and they have a nice controlled beam not a diffused one. So I'm not 100% sure. I'll definitely message Mcguyver though because I am not confident in the work although it would be nice to learn during the install so that I would be able to do it next time or repair if anything did happen. I'll send a PM his way.

It shouldn't make any difference if you replace just the one defective ballast. If it was me, I would prb replace both at the same time (One of mine crapped out last yr and bought a pr since they were inexpensive).
In regards to the projectors, if they were from a tsx, I think they take a D4S, D2S bulb where the stock mazda3 take a H7 bulb.

Ya but the TSX projectors are on the old headlight while the stock ones are on the new headlight... is it easier to move the projectors into the new headlight or the angel eyes into the old one? Sorry for the newb question. And maybe I'll order the ballast now just in case. Thanks

Ahhh I think you would have been better off buying angel eyes and installing it on your current headlights with the TSX projectors.
If you were going to swap either part from a headlight housing, you'd be baking and sealing 4 headlights total.

The better alternative I'd suggest is running power from the fuse of the indy fog mod to the AE so you have control over DRL and at night time.

I don't mind doing the baking and what not. which is going to be easier to remove though ? Are the angel eyes going to be glued in? I was going to paint the inside housing of both of them so I can two birds one stone it anyway. The only thing I'm REALLY nervous about is resealing them. I suck at anything that even resembles gluing. :(

Since McGuyver isn't responding where else would be a good place to go to get the electrical part of this done. I'm not confident enough to attempt it myself.

Hyperion. He's good with electricals as well. If its just the power you want then its an easy tap to the parking lights or your fogs if you have an Indy mod

Resealing them isn't really reglueing as the two halves are held together with a silicone based materials. There is a guide on another forum I referenced to do the work.
The angel eyes are held in by clear silicone. I've heard other people use other materials that don't hold as we'll and they have to redo them.
In regards to the electrical part of the install, it's fairly easy to do.
You like me have the luxury of having 2 sets of headlights. I modded the extra set while still able drive my car. Taking apart the headlights is not that hard. Just take your time, don't rush.

If you just need the electrical wiring done, contact Lockdown

A good suggestion though the OP lives in the Niagara region and may not make it out to Toronto that often.

Exact same set up I have, works perfectly. basically, everything is independent. You can have anything on by itself if you want or have everything on at the same time.

If you dont mind baking and sealing the headlights yourself couldnt you simply just separate the headlights and push the new lenses onto the old TSX upgraded housings? The angel eyes would still be on the new half, youd just need to pull the wires through the back grommet? no need to do "wiring"

Yup! Perfect this is exactly what I plan on doing. Thanks! Only thing I'm worried about now is wiring the ballasts back to the fuse box. I haven't yet wired anything into the fuse box and as such it scares me a little. I will look up the tutorial though and I think I'll be fine.
