random question....
started thinking while watching Top Gear, especially when they did the episode on Hot hatchbacks...
Why no mention of the MPS?
I thought it would have been a great contender with the cars they had..
Any reason, or are they just not a fan of Mazda lol

Motortrend also just did a review of the MS3.
I agree with you though thanu, I think it would've fit into that comparison. Well, except that I don't think any of the others were FI, so it'd easily be the most powerful. It seems to me like the MPS is less popular across the pond for some reason..
Top gear UK, being a British show, probably focused on hot hatches that are the most popular in the segment. I don't think MPS is all that prevelant in the tuner scene as it is here.

not as entertaining but still a uk based comparison....
but top gear really needs to review the MS3 .... someone send them an email.... maybe we will get a review like the Ford fiesta one they had a few years back :chuckle

They've done a written review (you can find it on their site) and they don't really like it and clarkson would just bash the hell out of it, so no point. Besides, if they were going to review it they probably should have done it in 2007 when it came out or 2010 when the design changed. As it stands I doubt we'd see it until there's another refresh at the earliest.
That said, I am sick of the stupid renaults and fords and citorens they ALWAYS review.

I don't think I remember seeing them ever put a mazda on the show (although I haven't watched several of the older seasons). Is this a true statement? Maybe mazda doesn't want to lend them cars for some reason lol

Sometimes I wonder if their verdicts on cars are skewed by money from the manufacturers though, because it seems like plenty of cars get great reviews while overlooking obvious flaws, and other good cars get nitpicked to pieces. Plus, as natural as they make it seem, top gear is all scripted, so the reviews could be scripted too.

Ok must have missed that (and the ms6)... I'll have to go back and watch them :D

When they did their Middle East Special, Clarkson drove an older MX-5. Talked about how much he loved the car when he introduced it as his pick... Of course in true Top Gear fashion it wasn't much of a Mazda by the episodes finish...

This. They had three new cars.......why include a 4 year old car.

When your roads are always wet and slippery. And "petrol" costs more than it does here, the speed isnt the greatest choice for alot of them, they just bitch about how it has too much power for a fwd car and you cant modify it without making it worse rah rah rah whatever.
For great Britain use, those little euro hot hatches are perrrrrfect

If I remember correctly, they did a written review of the first gen MS3 and Clarkson didn't like it at all and in fact bashed it pretty bad. It seems if it isn't British, Porsche or some super exotic, they get bashed. It is entertaining to watch though with their challenges.

Well they are on the other side of the pond and those cars are popular in the EU. Not to mention that their primary target audience are Brits.
Personally I find it refreshing to have reviews on brands that we cannot get here in NA.
That being said, I did see quite a large number of M2s, less so for M3s and the rest while I was in Lisbon last fall.

based off of top gear episode season 19 episode 4 (http://www.streetfire.net/video/top-gear-season-19-episode-4-19x04_2419939.htm) and motortrends review of the 2013 ms3 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDK87rCFe-0) if they were to do a comparison between ford focus st and ms3, it would be tipped in the focus's favor. Everyone seems to compliment how ford has done something to completely get rid of torque steer, something which mazda has been trying to do, but has not gotten it quite right yet....

You do know the focus uses a brake based diff?
And gives you instant power assist to combat whatever side the car is pulling to?
Ford took out what made the car LEGIT.
The REVOKNUCKLE was made to PROPERLY combat torque steer!
especially in those 300whp+ special edition's they get in europe.
The one we get is 2/3 focus st IMO
