Hi everyone, this is my very first post on TM3 and I figured where better to get some purchasing advice!

I'm currently looking to buy my first car and I've grown pretty attached to the Mazda 3. My dad will be involved in the whole process and he likes the idea of getting a CPO car from a dealer as it seems like an easier/safer route.

I've been looking at the cars at Westowne a lot since they are very close to me and here are 3 that have caught my eye:

2009 Mazda 3 GX w/ comfort, CPO, 59000km, ex daily rental, $11,500 (http://www.westowne.com/en/usedcars/listing/details.spy?id=4810322)

2009 Mazda 3 GS Sport, CPO, 76000km, $13,400 (http://www.westowne.com/en/usedcars/listing/details.spy?id=4717126)

2010 Mazda 3 GX, CPO, 48000km, ex daily rental, new tires & brakes, $13,300 (http://www.westowne.com/en/usedcars/listing/details.spy?id=4784667)(better that the tires and brakes have been replaced?)

In comparison, Budds Mazda has a 2011 Mazda 3 GX, also CPO, with 45000km for $12,899 and no mention of problems or it being a rental. Why do the prices vary so much?

I've also found a 2010 Kia Forte with 20000km for about $12000 with all the bells and whistles which could be a contender once I get more info on it.

Sorry for the long post but I would love any advice/suggestions!

Stay away from daily rentals. People beat the crap outta them.

Like mentioned above, people generally treat rentals with the "**** it, it's not my car" attitude, so they're not always in the best condition.

Purchasing a Gen 1 or a Gen 2 is entirely up to you, Gen 2's will naturally be more expensive. If there's no rush to purchase, waiting a bit until the Gen 3's will save you some money on a Gen 2, but that won't be for a little while.

Buying privately would likely be cheaper, but buying from a dealership is often safer, and sometimes comes with benefits.

Ok stay away from ex rentals. Gotcha.

Mazda of Toronto has a 2009 gs for about $12900 with 44000 km which seems fantastic. Gotta call for some further details and hoping for the best. Good price?

Also, my dad is under the impression that I would need to service the car at the dealer I bought it from which, if from MoT, is a bit out of the way. It would still be going to a mazda dealer, just one much closer to home. Warranty would be factory and not dealer specific so no issues there right?

Thanks for any help!

You can service at any Mazda dealer and retain factory warranty.

Buying privately would likely be cheaper, but buying from a dealership is often safer, and sometimes comes with benefits.

That can be debatable.. My bumper was apparently repaired and repainted poorly, which explained all 1000 paint chips I quickly aquired after buying it. Used to be a demo car so I guess someone incompetent got behind the wheel and they half assed it.

thats my rant for the day.

Price is nice but the km seem a bit high for a 2010. Plus the location is pretty far from me. But thanks!

Hmm price is nice. Are 83,000km a little high for a 2010? And it would still be covered under factory warranty correct?
