Out of curiosity, has anyone ever bought rotors and pads off of eBay from one of these Canadian sellers. Sub $200 pricing for four rotors and brake pads. Must be too low a price to be decent.

You get what you pay for. Would you trust a $200 product to save your life? There are other threads about brakes / pads if you do a search.

This. Nothing like a cheap set of drilled rotors that will start playing connect the dots. :P

I can understand bashing the OP for looking at ebay brake parts but really $200 on front pads LOL! Has anyone here ever used rockauto.com?
For $257 the OP can get 4 rotors and pads "POWER STOP Part # K121 {#BK684272} Performance Upgrade Kit; Incl. Silver Zinc Plated XDrilled & Slotted Rotors w/Z16 Ceramic Scorched Pads" plus shipping (and these are premium parts you can get way cheaper but still good parts)
It usually arrives in 2-3 days duties included in the shipping quote.

Hey, I just wanted to point out that I didn't start the thread to cut corners. I didn't find a lot of info on these eBay sellers, so I thought it might be a good thread to have to see what people thought and such. As for the T-rated tires, I posted that because of recommendations on some other threads, but I would never recommend them (I went with H)
I'm currently on the train back from Montreal. Should be picking some sweet new breaks soon! Still have to decide but I will not be going with an eBay seller. FYI so far I've been quoted $400 total for either Centric/OEM equivalent and Hawk HPS pads (front and rear).

I was going to say. I don't even know if it makes sense for me to get those since I don't do track, and they're not blank rotors.
They are a really nice price though, and many people think of Power Stop as a very good brand. $340 total.
Anyone run these not for track?

i guess, it really depends on how you drive too. but i drive hard with a couple auto-x. so i dont want to have the risk of cracks developing. but for normal street use im sure theyre fine.

Cheap drilled rotors aren't a good idea. They can easily start cracking.
However, for regular blank rotors I have great luck with the cheapest, Chinese rotors I could find. I changed my front rotors and pads over 3 years and 70,000 kilometers ago and they work just like the OEM ones they replaced. They were white box versions at $30 a piece and had part numbers on the box for Wagner, Bendix and some other well known brand. Basically they are the same rotors as the "name brand", I just skipped the middle man.
So yes, the cheap rotors work and work great for simple blanks.

Never had my rotors from ebay crack. They were obx I believe. On ebay they cost 60 big ones for a set and 30 shipping. So for normal street use price may not always direct related to quality. They dont make these rotors for a mazda and that price was for an 02 focus.

So yes or no on ebay rotos.
How about the powerstop package from rockauto.com?
I'm in deep research for rotors and pads. For no reason or ugency, just so I can be ready when I change them.

how are you driving? in my opinion, blank or slotted are fine from ebay. drilled may be too much if you drive HARD. but can stand up to normal street driving.
if your not urgent, then get a set locally. are you looking for something in particular?

Granted I can agree with the principle that getting good brakes from a reputable manufacturer is the best thing to do.
However, I have cross-drilled rotors from J&R Auto installed sometime in 2011, while the brake pads have had to be changed, the rotors are still holding up great. Paid $300 total for all for rotors and pads and install ... I drive about 4,000km - 5,000km a month.

There is no general consensus on Ebay rotors and pads. Some people have them and like them. Some people think they are too cheap. If you look hard enough you will find some horror stories about certain vendors. From what I can tell, the ones in the GTA area are machined in Ontario, however, they may possibly come from China first. Also, there are some concerns about the quality of the brake pads. The lack of blank rotos options was a turn off, however, I suspect that you can demand for blanks from certain vendors.
As for the Rockauto.com PowerStop packages, I can tell you that the rotors are first manufactured in China then machined in the US. No clue about their Z16 ceramic brake pads manufacturing process but I'm assuming China. Their 1-click performance brake job packages have very favourable ratings on a couple of US sites (i.e. autoanything) although none of the reviewers drove an M3. The two products that are on Rockauto both have the same Evo Z16 brake pads, however, the cheaper OE brake kit comes with blank rotors for around $250 with shipping (couldn't find any reviews on these). The performance brakes are slotted and cross-drilled as well as zinc-plated (many reviews about these) and run about $350 with shipping, however, there is no real argument to buy the performance brakes since they may actually perform worse than blanks due to less surface area and will likely wear out your pads quicker due to the slots. Both PowerStop kits come with 2-year, 24k mile warranties.
Locally, I only found Hawk HPS pads with OEM or OE-spec rotors for around $400 so I ended up ordering the Powerstop OE blank rotors and ceramic pad brake kit (KOE-121). I will post photos and an update after installation likely this weekend.

Thanks for the help. I'm not in a rush to get my brakes changed yet. I don't want to cheap out on my brakes. But I don't want to purchase something I won't utilize fully.
Slotted, cross drilled etc looks good but if blank OEM rotors seem to be doing the job well AND is cheaper... Then Blank OEM should be good to go.

i personally have flat brake pads. that means theres no weather channel cut in the pad to allow water and debris to escape. my brakes feel numb during hard rain. ill probably drop some money for slotted rotors from brake labs in the next season or so.

I've heard some guys have great success with the ATE premium rotors from canadian tire and matching them up with Hawk HPS pads. I was thinking about running a similar set up, however i honestly would prefer the blank rotors over ATE's weird design that looks similar to an atom hehehe! don't mean to thread jack the OP but does anyone have solid numbers on how much OEM pads and rotors go for?

I havent had a chance to check out my local CT but i'll find out if they carry the front ones! i know discounttire carries the same brand but i'm pretty sure you'll have to order online with them. Maybe CT pretends they only have the rears when those rotors are on the "buy one set get the other set free" deals. Anyways i'll keep you posted. To the OP if you do go with the ebay rotors keep us posted on their performance cause some slotted front rotors would be nice, and even nicer if you can get them cheap.

i called canadian tire and part source (same thing) and they both said they dont make them for the front. the only reason why they have the rear is because some other cars use the same rotor (volvo, etc). i linked an ebay listing that had slotted rotors for a pretty good price from a pretty good seller. reviews are all over the internet about them. ill link again

im getting a set of these next. main reason im getting them is for wet weather braking. but hopefully there might be some other good things about them :)
I have rotors from eBay. They have held up great for a year now. The pads on the other hand were not the greatest so I have since swapped them. I wouldn't worry too much as long as its a reputable seller , I bet lots of these rotors come from the same factory (my opinion) . Pads are another story as different companies may use a different recipe of materials
