View Full Version : Another "Identity This Sound" Thread!!!

So this is a new one!!! Betty sounds like an old wagon...

There are the classic "my brakes squeak when applied" threads, but this is happening when the brakes are NOT applied as well.

The details:

As above, sound takes place when brakes are not applied, and gets louder when they actually are applied (as heard in the video). Strange.

Sound is heard when driving within the first couple of minutes, then disappears.

Not sure if this could be related or not, but my e-brake has actually been very loose for a while now, will probably need to have the cable replaced. Maybe this could be contributing to the sound?

It definitely sounds like it has something to do with the brakes but how is this happening when I'm not even pressing them? We will be checking for a possible bent shield tonight... wondering if anyone else has heard this on their car and has any other suggestions for things to look out for?

Thanks! :)

Not low at all, brand new pretty much

I was thinking maybe warning clip but I assume Gab would have looked at that already.

Sticky caliper or ebrake maybe also.

So it goes away after a little bit of driving? I still think it could be some rust residue but who knows.

He hasn't looked at it yet actually, but we'll check for that too!

It definitely could be residue, but something must be stuck or dragging for it to continue like that... it's so loud, it echoes as I'm driving out of our apartment complex hahahha, the sound just echoes off all three buildings... so embarrassing!!

Loose belt? Thinking outside the box as in not related to brakes.

could be a pebble stuck in between the pads, shield and rotor? could also be the shims since you say theyre practically brand new

Were the pads, brackets and slider pins properly cleaned (obviously the pads wouldn't need to be cleaned since would've been new, but you get what I mean) and lubricated when the brake job was done?
