Before installing my summer rims, I am going to install prokit for my 2012 sedan.
I called the shop that I got my rims from, and asked them for prokit install cause I figured it'll be more convenient to install them since the wheels are off anyway, but they quoted me 270$ and it's a 3-4 hour job for 4 corners. They told me to be careful if someone is charging me much less better know what they're doing...

Does it really take that much time and cost that much?
It's a no brainer that I am going to Jimmy for it.

the rear is a joke. would take maybe 20mins? the front is the pain in the ass because you need to remove the whole strut compress the spring remove the top mount put new spring in etc. so yeah i can see 3 hours but with the right tools maybe an hour or 2? i put my coils in my car in less than an hour but then again it wasn't my first show

Now why would you ask them to do that since they took off your wheels? Taking off the wheels is probably the easiest thing you can do for maintenance.

But them charging $270 is pretty steep. I guess it's how they feel like doing it and how often/ familiar they are with the install.

regardless of how easy it is to remove a wheel it still takes time and labor is not cheap

atleast you arent getting charged 450$ for just labour for springs . i got ripped off by a place when i first hit the modding scene. Jimmy is familiar with the install, and charges less than any other place while being honest.

Thats the going price though. Jimmy is just really good with the price and we're lucky. Any other shop will have a steep price (which is actually what the pricing should be).

Yeah jimmy is probably much more knowledgeable with mz3 than this shop. So iirc jimmy s price is no longer 100 right?

Holy, that's a very steep price, and that's just a quote for springs installed.

Kevin from SFG Automotive (formerly Select Right Car Detailing) quoted me $330 for the following:

1) magnaflow cbe
2) fog light hid
3) cabin air filter
4) koni yellows
5) eibach pro kit

Based on both personal and second hand experience, I'm almost positive that Jim would charge about the same for everything you listed. It just comes down to rapport at that point.

Also comes down to your wait time.

Koni + spring install is same price as just springs since the shocks come out anyway

So you paid essentially $190 for cabin filter, exhaust and some fogs

It's actually easier when you do springs + new struts because if you just do one or the other, the mechanic has to remove the springs.

Yeah but then I would want to buy some time with OEM shocks (maybe 2 yrs?)to save up for koni

So fork out the cash and put on the springs

Sounds like you've already made up your mind to go to Jimmy so not quite sure what the point of this thread was except to vent about being quoted $270 to put in springs

Point of the thread was to see if the shop was charging the market price and Jimmy charging cheaper vs. shop overcharging and Jimmy charging the market price.

and now I know it's the former, I am not sure why this offends you, isn't it the point of posting in the forum?

Why do you think I'm offended?

Just go get your springs installed
