over the last year I've collected a hodgepodge of equipment to enable some decent quality listening.

Belt Drive
Semi Automated
Ortofon 2M Red MM Catridge - Still breaking in!

Onkyo DS-777 Receiver

110 watt RMS per channel, 8Ohmn
Phono Input
THX, Dolby, yadayada - Its a home theater receiver.

Mirage SM4-A Speakers

Kind of an unknown to me
Circa 1981?
Looking for more information on these babies

Logitech Z-5500 Subwoofer

Connected to Onkyo Receiver via Optical Cable
187 Watts RMS
10 inch woofer
Range ~28Hz to 250, although it drops off rather severely around 200hz and upwards.

Awesome. I'm building a setup at home. GF got me a turntable two christmases ago, have it hooked up to a harman/kardon 4 channel receiver running through my Bose computer speakers ATM. Currently sourcing some vintage speakers to run as a permanent setup. I'll post specs on the receiver when I get home tonight.

As for records, I have used copies of Dark Side of the Moon and Sgt Peppers, as well as most of the Deftones back catalog, some Coheed & Cambria records and some other various ones (Dead & Divine, Baroness, some jazz stuff). I've been looking for a copy of Breakfast in America, I'm jelly!

Honestly, some of the big old speakers are worth their weight in gold, and can be found at thrift stores. Just make sure the foam/rubber is in good shape. (a good set of speakers is worth being re-foamed.

If you have room, go big. So many husbands have to sell their big amazing speakers for dirt cheap because their wives don't like how they look in the living room, lol, so they trade them in for the little bose speakers or home theater in a boxes.

Haha, I can understand that. Luckily my gf thinks it's pretty cool and is in full support of my vinyl hobby. Do you have a room devoted to that, or just have your setup in the living room or something.

Vinyl can sound awesome!

My dad has been a DJ for 30+ years, at one point he had like 20+ milk crates full of vinyl he had to carry.

Hes still got some but got rid of a lot of it when he moved to cassettes and then CD's, I will see if I can dig up some old pics. His BOES 901's sounded awesome with his turn tables at home never mind his DJ setup..

My uncle still has new sealed original White Albums tucked away for a rainy day.

For every 5 alblums I buy, I buy one with Megan in mind. (thankfully there's some music she likes that I do as well)

The basement is my "domain" Its the home theater, my computers/office, and my place to display my nerdy and collectible stuff. I keep it organized, just in case we have company over. Megan has her own room as well, so it works well.
