I know I'm new here but wouldn't a subsection in the classifieds for already sold items be helpful? Seems like it would de-clutter it quite a bit

I'm sure I'm not the only one to mention this

well the seller should update the thread when its sold and when a mod see's it they lock it up so its easy to distinguish

we don't have too much going on in the classifieds for it to be detrimental for the threads to stay until they get bumped

Our classifieds, well at least the Automotive parts related section refresh so quickly that there isn't a point to move everything over. I mean it would help de-clutter it but in a day or 2 the sold/locked items are gone from view.

As for the other ones I suppose it would help clean things up.

Doing a test so we will see how that goes and maybe we will apply it to some or all of the classifieds.

Setup is easy.

It's just work in terms of moving things. 1 more step. Not difficult but it just makes for a bigger process for all to follow/search, etc.

You can look at this from different perspectives:

Yes, it will keep the Classifieds section clean, but it may start to look empty if people sell things fast and mods move Sold threads elsewhere.
Another reason is simply the fact that locked threads naturally go to the bottom, while new ones are at the top.
If the thread is old and hasn't item hasn't been sold, a user can bump the thread, which will instantly bring it back to the top.

This is a natural flow of things and adding an extra step in the process is possible and easy, but not completely necessary.

Now if we wanted to go down that road, I am sure a few lines of PHP code could be written for an automated script to be put into cron scheduler and automatically move all locked threads in Classifieds section to another subforum. Been there, done that, heh.

Fair enough, I am definitely looking to contribute to the classifieds with some items, when I clean out my closet in a couple of weeks, hah.

I actually really like this idea. Just went to the classifieds and noticed the new sub-section. It's not that much less clutter (not that locked threads are exactly clutter) but I can think of more than a few times that I've opened a FS thread before realizing everything was sold/it was locked. So, at least in that respect, I like it.

How about adding a number to the titles of the threads with the number of items sold?

ie:

FS: 'user' mz3 partout [0/4]

^ indicating 0 of 4 items sold

and as they sell, becomes..

FS: 'user' mz3 partout [3/4]

^ indicating 3 of 4 items sold

and then of course, when it hits 4, becomes closed and should THEN be bumped to a SOLD subsection

AFAIK users can't edit their topics. Mods would have to do that for each thread.

As long as:
- only posters bump their own thread (so it doesn't get too long) and
- op updates what is still available when they bump on occasion
then there are no issues.

It would be a pain for mods to keep updating.

This.

I wish sold threads could just be archived though because on multiple occasions I'll be "oooh look at that" "oops is sold :AH". It makes reading the classifieds more annoying. Yes once they are locked they fall down the list but it can still be there for 2-3 days. But if that's not a possibility it works fine now.

I'm not doing it

There's enough things to keep an eye on in the classifieds
