View Full Version : Mazda Meet at SRTA Event#3
http://www.sigmatimeattack.ca/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/SRTA3-Flyer.jpg
After years of motorsports enthusiasts (me included) complaining that Mazda USA offered all the support, I can't tell you how happy I am that Mazda Canada is supporting SRTA. Many members of this forum were instrumental in making this happen.
I know and hope the usual suspects are in for the Time Attack so let's get the rest of TM3 out for the meet!

just to let everyone know, this event is open for ALL Mazda enthusiasts and not just those participating in the Time Attack that day.
Some more info from SRTA:
As some of you know, Mazda Canada took a big step forward this year and began supporting the Mazda grassroots racing community! Starting with SRTA, Mazda Canada is giving cash payouts for competitive Mazda racers. For those of you who are unaware, more info is here:
Mazda Canada Grows Grassroots Contingency Programs for Canadian Motorsports in 2013 - Feb 9, 2013 (http://en.media.mazda.ca/2013-02-09-Mazda-Canada-Grows-Grassroots-Contingency-Programs-for-Canadian-Motorsports-in-2013)
SRTA Canada | 2013 Mazda Contingency Awards Program Sigma Racing Time Attack Series (http://www.sigmatimeattack.ca/2013mazdacontingency/)
Additionally, Mazda Canada and SRTA wish to organize a big Mazda meet at the track:
SRTA #3
Sunday, July 28
TMP - Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, ON (http://torontomotorsportspark.com/)
9am ~ 5pm
This will be a Mazda meet and Mazda Canada and SRTA are working together to come up with some programs with prizes and will announce them as we go. However, we already have commitment from Mazda Canada for the following:
1. Mazda Contingency Awards will DOUBLE that day (for those participating in the Time Attack)
2. Free lunch for everyone, provided by Mazda Canada.
Mazda Canada, out of all other OEMs, is the only one who's showing support for the grassroots motorsports community. As proud Mazda owners ourselves, let's show our support back, and let Mazda Canada know that we appreciate what they've done for us!
ZOOM ZOOM!!
Of course, you can track your car and compete, or you can simply bring your beloved Mazda for the meet. Track or meet, let's get together and have a good time!

Any certificates needed for track run?
As long as your car is mechanically sound.... no special certificates required to bring to the track to run in the Test and Tune and the Time Attack.
Here's the info pasted from STRA Timeattackology 201 (http://www.sigmatimeattack.ca/timeattackology-201/):
Timeattackology 201 Rules and Safety
This document contains Timeattackology 201. It is a requirement for all Sigma Racing Time Attack participants to read and fully understand this document.
Sigma Racing Time Attack (SRTA) considers safety a critical part of our events, hence we have rules and regulations set up specifically to ensure the safety of racers and spectators.
Our events are open to all drivers/vehicles given they meet the rules set out herein:
Vehicle:
OEM seat belts are the minimum acceptable driver restraint.
All loose items must be removed from the vehicle.
Vehicles suspension components are to be in proper working order (no loose balljoints, broken springs etc). There shall be no cracks in brake discs. Tires are to have no cord/belt showing at any place or time. Cars with tires showing cord/belt will not be permitted to continue.
All aftermarket hoods shall be firmly secured.
Driver:
Helmets are mandatory, for drivers as well as the passengers. Furthermore helmets are to be minimum DOT approved (no bicycle or snowmobile helmets).
Only closed footwear is permitted (no sandals).
No alcohol or drugs are allowed prior or during the track event.
No cell phones or any hand held communication devices will be allowed when driving.
All drivers must be registered for the event and sign the waiver forms.
All drivers must attend the Drivers Meeting held at 8:30am of every event prior to entering the track.
Track:
Only course workers will be allowed out in the course area. Exceptions may be made by event officials.
Flag signals are to be obeyed by all participants. Flags are distinguished by their colours convey different meanings:
A yellow flag will be waved to signal caution. Usually, this means someone had spun out. Continue to drive with extra caution and pay attention to your surroundings. There is absolutely no passing during the duration of the yellow caution.
A red flag will be waved to signal a serious problem on the track. When a red flag is signaled, slow down immediately and come to stop at a reasonable pace. Drivers must remain seated in their vehicles until further notifications are provided. Drivers must never exit their vehicles while they are on the track, unless they feel their safety is at risk, such as the case of a vehicle fire. There is absolutely no passing during the duration of the red caution.
A black flag will be used to bring all vehicles off the track or a specific vehicle to the pit immediately. The black flag may indicate a situation which could endanger all drivers on the track. The black flag may also indicate a visible defect with a vehicle which could endanger the safety of others. More over, the black flag will also be used to signal inappropriate driving behaviour which poses a threat to other track users.
Passing is to be completed in designated areas only and off the racing line.

$200! I don't understand why these events think they can charge twice as much than the track charges on regular lap days. No thanks Im not gonna pay double just so a group of ppl are watching me.
Im too cheap for that.
Ill go during regular hours when you can actually get decent track time and it only costs $80-$100 LOL what a joke. And this is Mazda giving? or taking?
Just to help clarify.... :)

$100 - 5pm ~9pm = $25/hour

SRTA (Sigma Racing Time Attack) is the organizer of the Time Attack series that is hosting the event. For 2013, Mazda has offered Contingency money to the Top 3 Mazda's in each Group. For 2013, SRTA has started offering Prize money to the Top 3 competitors in each Group (before it was only 1st place that got their entry fee back while 2nd and 3rd got T-shirts).
you don't have to pay the $200 to run, that's your right. You're more than welcome to come and show your support for Mazda Canada sponsoring a Time Attack event and get a free lunch while you're at it.
However, if you can win your Group, you can make your $200 back and more:
Cash Prizes
Below is the cash payout structure for SRTA 2013:
Shannonville Motorsports Park (SMP) Races
1st $440, 2nd $220, 3rd $110
Toronto Motorsports Park (TMP) Races
1st $400, 2nd $200, 3rd $100
Cash prizes listed above are for each SRTA vehicle class. SRTA cash payouts may be prorated depending on turnout for each class.
Additionally, competitors may be qualified for the 2013 Mazda Canada Contingency Awards.
The chart below summarizes the 2013 Mazda Contingency Awards program payout Sigma Racing Time Attack series
Group A
1st Highest Placed Mazda $150.00
2nd Highest Placed Mazda $75.00
3rd Highest Placed Mazda $50.00
Group B

1. This event is FREE for spectators. We want ppl to come out and get a taste of what competitive motorsports is like on a grass roots level.
2. Look at how far we have come along:
a) This section was started May 21/2008. 5 years and 1 week after, we are finally getting some meaning ful recognition and a hosted track meet by Mazda Canada.
b) Our support and participation in SRTA has garnered enough interest for Mazda Canada to host a meet and provide contingency, which they have upped and doubled for this meet.
3. This is basically the culminated result of all the videos, lap times, and results that those of us who have been competing: a Mazda-focus series, that rewards Mazda drivers.
4. In conclusion. For those of us, who have tracked and have contributed to the development to our cars being on track and on track successfully, this is great news and finally, some results that can be shared by everyone, despite the efforts being championed by only a few. So...
Thank you SRTA. Thank you Mazda Canada. And you're welcome, Torontomazda3.

We are gathering interest and looking to host a short 1/2hr "Track prep Seminar" @ the SRTA/Mazda meet.
http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/showthread.php?71173-GI-*Mspeed*-mazdapeed3-seminar!
We will have several current competitors speak briefly about their track prep regiment and how to get your head in the game if you're considering the sport. Please sign up, so we know how many to expect. This will be done at a break around lunch.

it was nice meeting everyone yesterday. Thanks to the guys who asked me to test their cars. I was really impressed
with their set ups. Paul's car with a few more tweaks will be a beast. I estimate 2 weeks and it will be sorted ;)
I have to say I think Neil's car has huge potential! After driving it the engine was so balanced and reved smooth through the entire range. A little suspension tuning and turbo work and this car will be in the teens at TMP!
Cheers

Next time Thrizzl3 I find so many cars are built with all the right parts but as you add more parts it takes time to dial
it in. There is nothing more frustrating then adding parts/ money and losing balance. Not to worry though as a few tweaks will dial it in.
For Neil softening the sway bar one notch will yield big benifits. On tighter tracks a smaller turbo will help with quicker spool etc.
TMP is a 2nd-4th gear track. Sometime staying in a higher gear will give better times in the kink section but if the turbo is not on tap then that is out the window. The set up he has now would be ideal for Mosport GP with it large sweepers the car stays high in the rev range 3rd-5th.
For Paul just a tire change/alignment with make a world of difference! His car is so close to being a monster but with improper tires/alignment it takes the full of the drivers ass to keep it planted. Engine and power delivery are spot on!
Fubawu
07-29-2013, 12:25 PM
I should say Mosport is more 3rd-4th, I can edit my post. As for me Money and time keeps me more stock with my set up.
I run full exhaust and an intake for power mods. Suspension is stock other then sway bars. It is really hard to compete in A group on street tires. The R-Comps are good for estimated 2 sec a lap around TMP. In Ontario Time attack that is two classes!!
