From 4pm to about 5:30pm, Yonge is horrible from 401 all the way to Steeles. I'm glad I'm coming against traffic on my way home from work!

one of the reasons why i quit my job near there. it just got too congested and it took forever to get to work. and it got shut down for a while too. leaving work was the worst bit as traffic was even worse than in the morning

So basically it's all roads in the GTA from the hours between 7-10 AM and 3-6 PM all day every day?

pretty much. the roads were not meant for this amount of traffic when they were planned and built. now you see construction all over the city trying to widen, or build new roads with bicycle lanes. im almost certain traffic control is also a bit behind.

I suppose traffic in Toronto has been the bane of every driver's existence for years. The way City Hall and adjacent municipalities continue to bicker with the province while doing nothing regarding city transit lines, the more we'll lag behind in terms of commute and commerce. I think transit is the most, if not only important project they should be focused on. I'd be happy to pay more taxes or see budget relocation or cuts if it meant more GO lines and broader access to TTC in the GTA.

It's like that big party restaurant bill where heavy drinkers don't own up to their expense and everyone cheaps out on the tip, leaving fingers pointing and guessing why the bill is still short haha

agreed...same with Highway 7 and Woodbine it was awful when they had the northbound right turning lane closed off to act as a sidewalk...took me almost 45 min to get through...I stated avoiding it to say the least

That is the key, a tax that is dedicated only for public transit. The distribution of said tax will be based on the location of collection so you will not get the non-GTA ( i.e. outside of 416-647-905 plus whatever local area codes I may have missed ) tight-wads complaining of subsidizing Toronto's public transit fiasco. Make it a Federal tax while they are at it as Canada is sorely lacking in a national transit plan.

What is really frustrating is this issue is so obvious and critical to the overall financial health ( yeah I left out environmental as that is a given) of the GTA yet no level of gov`t has been willing to commit to it. Yeah Ford, where is your private transit daddy. Toronto City Council turtled when presented with an opportunity to provide input to the revenue streams. Flaherty refuses to permit any changes in the current tax formula yet wants to build an international-sized airport near Pickering ( yeah right...based on what independent report?...heh, no gravy there).

Going back on topic:
Burnhamthorpe Rd between Hurontario and Mavis.
Hurontario between Dundas and Eglinton

They say they are on schedule to finish by 2014 (but didn't say beginning, middle or end of 2014).

not even just that intersection. highway 7 spanning from basically bayview to warden is a goddamn mess, especially during rush hour. it's just ridiculous, and now that they've expanded, every single intersection (main or side street) gets a left turn light, regardless of whether or not there are cars waiting.

Yes. Absolutely right. The post started as intersections so I just chose one. I don't take it unless absolutely necessary. On another note, the businesses, restaurants must be taking a hit because of this.

Why is the 401, 404 and DVP transition not on this list? The civil engineer who designed that section of highway should be tar and feathered and made to drive that section of highway over and and over in a manual car without synchomesh gears.

i can imagine its not just specific intersections. big cities and town are in general a big mess when is comes to transportation. its really raising the green house gas and fuel consumption to stupid levels. which in turns creates a dominos effect on the economy. gas prices goes up with demand, insurance gets hiked up regardlessly, roads a practically destroyed, repairs done at rush hours (wtf?!), which in turn makes things worse for the people on the road AND the repair crew.

if all this keeps up, we'll have traffic right out of our driveway all the way to where we need to go - on a full tank of gas - broke because gas price and insurance is so damn high - then we wont have money for certain health care because the environment is so toxic. and all this because transportation is so damn well planned out! (sarcasm)

i love my car but i do get back aches lol. im thankful for the roads and services we have now, just a bit disappointed how were not past some of these problems. money is put into fixing roads, not improving them. its a never ending pit that were throwing money in.

I read once (years ago) that somewhere in canada (i believe it might be in ontario), there's a stretch of road that's been made of a different type of material (as opposed to regular asphalt). That road, if i remember correctly, is as smooth as it was from day one without any repairs. I just don't understand why we keep repaving the same roads over and over again with the same crap. I'd rather take the hit (initially) for the more expensive product and just get it done and over with.

And i do agree that the person that designed the 401/404/dvp exits should be shot. It's ridiculous that they ALL TURN INTO ONE LANE.

Last fall when that huge " pot hole repair project" was on. I drove by some workers, they were fixing pot holes with asphalt bags from HD and just shoveling it into the hole. Waste of money.

Roads in TO are getting worse and worse. And to make matters even worse they have reduced the amount of reflective material in the road paint ( due to a shortage) to the point where some roads are impossible to see the lines.

well that pisses me off. probably not using it because it will put people out of work or another reason for the city council to sound responsible by saying "were repairing the road of T.O.

Well, a large portion of the 407 (I don't know exactly how much) is paved with concrete. And the reason they use asphalt is because of money. Asphalt is cheap. Concrete not so much. There's several benefits to using concrete over asphalt, but I guess its not worth the extra costs. *shrugs*

and then add in the traffic from the end of the sheppard subway line and fairview mall... outside of the downtown core, this is the worst intersection in toronto. the only thing dumber is the allen.

The 401 from Renforth to Allen. It doesnt matter what day or time of day...its always ALWAYS jammed. Sometimes I just wish they would just do a flyover and carpet bomb the entire stretch. Preferably with me on it.
