you cannot replace just the ball joint, u must replace the entire arm. but usually the rear bushings split on the arm anyways. they are usually around 150 from mazda and farely easy to install. aftermarket are not much cheaper.. if at all.

I have a 2004 Mazda3. My mechanic also said for this year, I had to change the entire arm. But some people said 2004-06 were actually the same as 2007. For 2007, the ball joint is sold separately. Can someone confirm if I can buy a 2007 ball joint and put it into 2004 control arm?

The ball joint is the entire control arm from '04 on up. They have never come separate. $165 at the dealer.
