So I have a Gen1 and Gen 2 and both have a charger to a dashcam hooked up to it. When I turn my car off, it will eventually power off my dash cam. However, for the Gen 2, the power is still kept on even when plugged in. Does anyone else notice this? I have to end up unplugging the charger in the compartment everytime I need to turn off the dash cam in the Gen 2. Now that said, I should hard wire but not comfortable with having someone splice some wires and hook it up to the fuse.

EDIT: Forgot if it was 12V in the middle compartment so mods can edit

The 12v in the compartment is always live... Plug it in at the dash for on/off control with the ignition. Hard wiring to the fuse (or wire from the fuse) is pretty easy, just need to make sure it's a solid connection.

Center console is a great place to have your dash cam plugged in, but you have to keep an eye on battery drainage.
My dash cam is plugged in to the center compartment and has a motion sensor that record any time something passes my car... If I don't manage a long drive once a week, my battery will drain. One time the car was completely dead after I did short distance driving for a week, and then didn't use it for 3 days, lol.

I hardwired my dashcam just by using instructions I found online. Very straightforward. You can also get it done from one of our sponsors at a decent price. I remember posting links on my thread for the instructions which tell you what you need so check it out. I'm on my phone, otherwise I'd post them here.

P.s. make sure you get a power control module that automatically shuts off the cam below a certain battery threshold to keep your car from dying.

THIS
... I don't have one, but it'll save your ### if you don't have a long commute to work to keep your battery charged all the time.

Still doesn't answer my question...My Gen 1, it shuts ff as soon as my car is off WITH it plugged in but for my Gen 2, its always on even when the car is off and I get worried that it will drain the battery overtime.

So you'll want to plug it in to the cigg lighter in the dash... when you turn your Gen2 off, the power to that socket is cut until you turn the key on again.

I believe he was saying that he has it plugged in behind the hand brake between the seats, and that when he turned the car off, the camera was still powered. Plugging it in at the cigg lighter below the dash should alleviate his worries of battery drain.

I'm talking about the one behind the hand brake which is still on even when the ignition is off on the Gen 2. Its off on the Gen 1....make sense?

The same outlet inside the arm rest compartment: It is dead must be a fuse but and I cannot trace which fuse it is.
I checked the oves on the side of the dash, driver's side. All fine.
Checked also the fuse box int he engine compartment.

Any ideas ?

Hey guys. Today the 12v plug in my armrest as well the cigarette light just below the deck died today. I was inflating my tires with a potable air compressor and it just died. Thought it was the compressor at first but after i tried a different device, i determined it was the plugs. If it's something as small as replacing the fuse, what type would I need to replace it? Or am I best to go to the dealership and let them check it out?

You'll need two 15 amp (blue) low profile fuses. Canadian tire or part source should stock them. Manual has a page as well as the back of the fuse box lid aft of the driver side door of the layout of fuses and their function.

Pull the panel on the left side of the dash. (the door closes against it)

There's a diagram there. Look for the correct fuse. pull it out. Look to see if the wire inside is gone. If it is, replace with the same rating. You can buy the fuse at any Canadian tire.

Thanks for the advise guys. I'll go on the weekend when I get the chance. But out of curiosity is there a worst case scenario? Meaning, if it's not the fuse, what else could likely cause it?
