I will be buying a K&N intake filter for my car. Is it worth buying the cover or does it even matter?

I bought the pre-filter for my typhoon series intake for the winter seasons. I figured for $15 it wouldn't hurt even if it didn't do anything. It seems to work though, lots of dirt and salt was caught by that filter instead of the pre-filter.

I've used one for a couple years now and I can't say if it helps or not but I haven't had any issues and I run my CAI all year round.

Like goodcase said, for $15 why not?

i got one and it catches some debris making the filter easier to clear in the future. no tiny sticks or leaves stuck in the pleats for you to pick out during cleaning. it will also keep the filter a bit dryer in light misting conditions to small droplets, but will not stop water that is being splashed onto the filter.

They work as everyone said... I bought my setup used, and it came with one... initially I had it on all the time, but it didn't look nice and I clean my filter regularly enough that the prefilter doesn't matter. I put it on in the winter months. Now that i think about it, if you don't have your filter in a cold-air style box (like simotas), having one in the winter might be a good idea in case you ever have to pop your hood in a snowstorm...
