I'm fairly happy with the car and i don't foresee myself doing any major mods so i thought why not get into a new hobby.
I've always enjoyed fishing be it with my dad or friends. So the other day I picked up a few new things. Tackle bag, new spinning rod combos, some lures and other tackle.
But what I would really like to get is a bait casting rod.
Can anyone provide input as to what would be good for someone who is just looking to get into bait casting? Either combos or separate reel and rod suggestions.
I don't want to break the bank my budget would be 150 or less taxes in.
I Would mainly be fishing within 3 hours driving distance of Toronto, Walleye/Bass/Pike
Thanks :)

if ugly stick makes a bait casting rod, pick it up, i have an ugly stick spinning rod, they are decently priced ( i think mine was $80 at bass pro) and i also have not heard anything bad about them.

Go with a st. Croix and Calcutta combo LOL$$$
Bass Pro tourney Special is actually pretty good for an entry level combo.
Regular price is under $100 for the pair.
I was able to get it for $70 on sale. Had it spooled and got a neoprene reel protector and rod sock with the money I saved :)

BC's take a while to get used to if you are not accustomed to it. Initial Set-up and casting is different.
The one major thing is rod length. Make sure you can transport a 1-piece rod.

Yeah i've heard its a bit tough to get use to when you start due to all the controls and backclash.
Although things are very scattered on the net i've also heard alot of people talk about the bass pro extreme combo ad a starter. Not sure as to what price range that falls into though.
Eric, do you have a link for the combo you mentioned?
Is it a 7 foot rod? Magnetic breaking or pins?
Btw have you landed anything big with it yet? :)

From the US site
http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Tourney-Special-Limited-Rod-and-Reel-Baitcast-Combos/product/1205110823344/
Unfortunately - I've only gone out twice this year - both times at night which means no BC (you need to be able to see your line hit the water)
I got the 6'6" rod for transport purposes. But going back - I should've / could've got the 7' rod LOL

I used to love fishing... Haven't been since I was a kid
Are there still any decent places to fish from dock/shore relatively close to the GTA area... +/- 3hrs.

i picked up a spin cast and bait cast combo of bass pro carbon lite series, very good combo and super lite and not too expensive but not to cheap at the same time.
baitcasters take a little bit to get used to. you need to learn how to properly adjust the spool control mechanism so so there's not to much spin on the spool while casting and to fine tune it with the magnetic mechanism on each lure.
the fun part of learning to sue bait casters is dealing with bird nests
if you stick with a 6'6 one piece your generally okay to transport it through the trunk and back seat

if your going to buy a new bait caster check to make sure the spool control dial has little clicks while turning the knob. i find you can adjustable it quicker with the little clicks vs the ones that just turn without the little clicking noise
check out lebaron at hwy 7 and woodbine they have rally good prices the abu garcia black max is a pretty good bait caster combo and is 66 bucks there

Within 3 hours of driving you have PLENTY of options.
I'm getting lazy to drive now and looking for places within an hour from me LOL
But for shoreline - you can't beat Hastings or Port Hope

Thanks 07Carbon, will check them out.
I purchased an Abu Garcia Specialist Spinning combo about a month ago from CT was on for 30 bucks if i recall correctly from 89.00. its not bad. i like the rod and the reel although i have yet to catch anything with it. at least the reel seems like its decent quality.
I will likely get a 7" BC rod, for someone who doesnt know much about the differences in the reels and rods though it's tough to find out what is good lol.. Most fishing forums i have come across seem either too small or very disorganized.
any good ones out there to sign up for?
schmatt; those are some damn big catches lol.. hell of a truck as well! Will check out tightline thanks.
I was at scugog a month ago, i find it to be too weedy even when i was in the boat. i had a spincast with no weedless hocks though.
